Has anyone heard
that Bobby Knight is intererested in Georgia? What impact could that have on SEC basketball????? He is a good coach and we would have to face this guy not only once a year but twice a year? Could he turn around the Bulldogs and make this an even talent heavy SEC East? I shudder to think about it. What thoughts does everyone have about this. I have to admit I am shaking in my boots a bit?

Haven't heard this
Interesting, to say the least, if this is true.
This would not scare me at all. I was not impressed with his time at Texas Tech, and I was too young at the time to appreciate what he did at Indiana. I do know he is a great coach, but I’m not sure if his coaching philosophy translates very well to todays game.
Wow.
That would make Georgia a lot better, make no mistake. He has said he wants to get back into coaching.
No matter what you think of Knight’s personality, he is absolutely one of the finest coaches in college basketball history. He is capable of turning Georgia into a good program.
If he was in the discussion for Alabama, I would be downright concerned. He is capable of turning Alabama into a serious, perennial top 20 team.

Well ...
… Georgia is in a tough spot geographically.
With more and more players staying close to home, Georgia has to compete with South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State and Florida as well as UK for recruits. Alabama can draw on the fertile grounds to the west, like Louisiana and Mississippi and even Texas and still draw on the talent-rich Georgia pool.
Alabama has somewhat better facilities and a much better basketball tradition and support. Georgia has never done a good job of supporting their basketball program, but Knight could build them into a winner. He could build ’Bama into a lesser national power.

Hmmmm...
This requires some thought…but the first thing that comes to my mind is that Georgia is a football school first, second, third, etc. I don’t necessarily think this makes it impossible, but it would require a dominant coach to take control and ‘sell’ the program. BK could be that coach.
I don’t think that geography is much of an issue. Isn’t it the largest state in that part of the world second to Florida? I don’t see GaTech that big of a recruiting threat. I think Knight could dominate recruiting in that state. Don’t know much about the facilities, but if they are poor, I suspect that a potential Knight deal would include commitments to get them up to par. It’s not like GA doesn’t have the money to spend on sports. :)
'..when they bring a knife, you bring a gun...that's the Chicago way..'
Well ...
Georgia had two McD’s last year. One went to Florida State, the other to Clemson.
Georgia is in a tough place. They are, just as you say, a football school. Knight’s presence will not make them a basketball school. That’s just how it is.

I don't see Knight dominating
…..the state of Georgia in recruiting. He will not do what’s necessary to land a lot of those top kids that Georgia produces every year. He’ll get some decent players, but I don’t see him ever getting a player like Derrick Favors, Al-Farouq Aminu or Gani Lawal.
GBB!!!
NBC Sports
reporting “if offered,he will take the job”.This is a bit early, thus I am skeptical. But Coach K only needs 100 wins to surpass his all time winning record.I can see Knight taking the job.
And he gets to keep...
… the red sweater.
I love Coach Knight as a personality and a rival coach. And you’ve got to respect his graduation rates. I think it would be great to have Coach Knight at Georgia.
Dickie V strikes again?
Vitale screamed his suggestion for Knight going to Georgia during the Tennessee/Florida game. Wonder if his comment is the beginning of or the middle of the rumor mill?
I saw that last night as well
IIRC, Knight is at 902 wins. If he were to coach 5 years at Georgia, he could become the first men’s coach to 1000 wins. A very large milestone.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
I would pay Knight myself to take any job in the SEC ...
… just for the entertainment value his presence brings.
Knight
I would LOVE to see Knight in the SEC. I would also LOVE for Jeneanne Edwards to ask him the same type question she asked BCG at the half! Think Billy was harsh???

lol
Knight would have had her for dinner. BTW, I haven’t commented on that whole thing but I think as a TEAM coach his answer was correct and he wasn’t rude for saying what he said. I actually was very proud fo him for saying what he said.
Poor Choice Of Words By Gillispie
Had he said “strange” question instead of “bad” one, maybe more palatable.
I thought it was a GOOD question myself. UK won’t have much of a chance in games where Meeks scores very few points.

Well
if you are coaching a TEAM that is the right answer. You never ever coach for one player or even two and we have seen evidence of what happends when the best shooter gets guarded time and time again. This is not University of Jodie its the University of Kentucky. They must learn to play when he is guarded and cannot score. I think he was saying they(they team) have to not rely on Jodie. It was an excellent message. to his team and I am sure he was directing it at them not her.
Regardless
The answer could have been worded better.
UK will not W many games where Jodie Meeks scores 6 points.

I'm sorry ...
… but I don’t like the halftime “interviews.” I really don’t see what purpose they serve. There’s really nothing to be gleaned from them, at least in my opinion.
If I were a coach I don’t think I would like a mic stuck in my face on the way to the lockeroom, especially if my team had just performed poorly.
Knight is very interested
ESPN keeps bouncing this around, now it makes more since, since they get SEC coverage next season.ESPN + Knight=ratings bump.
Knight
I think – personality wise – Kight and Gillispie are similar. I have always liked Coach Knight and I think we all know how I feel about our Billy G ;)

All Due Respect, I Sure Hope NOT
Gillispie can aspire to Knight’s RESULTS but his personality will nt be tolerated by or at UK.

Similar
I said that I thougth the were similar. I dont meant that I expect to see Gillispie heaving chairs out into the middle of the court or anything. Similar as in, Gillispie’s tendencies to get a bit “too passionate” and get T’d up, his comments to reporters, his “toughness,” – those types of things. Not exactly alike, but similar.

Yeah
I don’t think you will EVER see that from Knight again. I don’t like that he put his hand around the throat of a kid. I do like that he doesn’t put up with disrespect. For most purist in basketball I cannot stand these premadonnas who demand attention and treat their schools and coaches like crap. Knight has chilled in his old age. I think he knows that the NCAAA will ban him for life if he does it again and it will further damage him.
