Around SBN: SB Nation interviews Jerome Bettis

I’ve noticed that the above story is garnering a bit of attention, and will more than likely gain even more steam the closer we get to tip-off on Saturday against the Heels.

To be candid, I had totally forgotten about the fact that Wall is from North Carolina and might be experiencing some feelings about his recruitment by UNC, or rather, lack of recruitment going into Saturday’s game against them. Wall says that it doesn’t bother him, of course, but in the same piece goes on to say that "he grew up bleeding blue - Carolina blue".

There was some discussion in Ken’s recent piece about how we match up against North Carolina and I’m fairly certain that the general consensus is that at the 1 position, the advantage definitely goes to Kentucky. But, how about when the person at the one position feels he has something to prove? Is it still an advantage to Kentucky? I’m going to say yes, and I can’t wait to find out for sure.

Wow.

Great minds think alike. I just wrote an article on this subject. :-)

If John Wall is human

…and even factoring in that ridiculous inhuman speed, I’m guessing that is he is…he simply must feel extra incentive to have an extra-fabulous showing Saturday. The thought of an extra-motivated Wall gives me warm fuzzies inside—but of course, it could go either way. It could just as easily make him play tight and try to do too much himself and hurt the team. I’m hoping for a spurned-Chris Lofton-against-Kentucky type performance, of course.

Exactly.

I’m thinking that the “feeling slighted by UNC” could go either way, too. And at first I’m sure he’ll feel a bit of pressure to perform out-of-this-world, not to mention the fact that this is his first nationally televised game (and the first for all of our freshmen, for that matter), and with that comes all kinds of emotions for an 18-19 year old kid also, but, since I happen to think that John Wall is one cool cucumber, I’m thinking he’ll be able to overcome those jilted feelings and the jitteriness of “the big game”, and that he’ll eventually knock their socks off, hopefully quite literally. : )

Oh, and Tru, we are just awesome, aren’t we? ; )

Don't forget...

This may be his only opportunity to make ol’ Roy pay for the recruiting snub! I’d hazard a guess that he’s been dreaming of a double-double for a couple of days now! :-)

i was worried...

…at first that he might play too hyped up, but looking back at these seven games, especially more recently, i think he’s going to have a monster game.

i get that feeling mostly because I think John Wall really doesn’t want to lose to UNC, and as one of the leaders (with PPat) I think he’s made sure his teammates know just how badly he wants this game and what’ll it’ll mean for Kentucky.

With Wall, I really believe he wants to win much much more than he cares about his stats. I think he’ll get both on Saturday.
