Hartford Hawks @ Kentucky Wildcats: Pre-game
Tuesday night, the Hartford Hawks come in to Rupp Arena to take on the Kentucky Wildcats. This will be the last game before the Wildcats face the Louisville Cardinals, and from there, it is straight into SEC play vs. the Georgia Bulldogs.
The Hawks are by far the weakest team that Kentucky has faced since UNC-Ashville, and as such, if this team gives the Wildcats difficulty, we can begin to worry a lot about the future.
Here is the quick comparison between the two teams so far this season:
| Rank and Records | HART | UK |
| RPI | #348 | #11 |
| Strength of Schedule | #290 | #157 |
| Overall | 2-9 | 13-0 |
| Conference | 0-0 | 0-0 |
| Home | 2-2 | 8-0 |
| Away | 0-6 | 1-0 |
| Neutral | 0-3 | 4-0 |
| Top 25 | 0-0 | 2-0 |
| RPI Top 50 | 0-1 | 3-0 |
Notable opponents for the Hawks this year: The Baylor Bears, who beat them 71-69, and Seton Hall Pirates, who defeated the Hawks 89-56. The two Hawk victories have come at home versus the Marist Red Foxes and the Fordham Rams.
The Hawks are from the America East conference, which includes such members as the Albany Great Danes, the Maine Black Bears, the Boston University Terriers, the Stony Brook Seawolves and the Vermont Catamounts.
More after the jump.

Analysis:
The Hartford Hawks have struggled this season due to the youth of their most significant and effective players. The Hawks are very small across the front line, with their biggest starter at only 6'8" tall. Hartford is a very dangerous 3-point shooting team, but a relatively poor 2-point shooting team.
This team, young as it is, has much more experience than the diaper-dandy Wildcats. Hartford will test the Wildcats' perimeter defense on almost every possession, and if Kentucky does not stay in the face of their three-point shooters, it is possible that Kentucky fans will witness another Sam Houston-like barrage from outside. Fortunately, the Hawks are not nearly as accomplished as the Bearkats.
Kentucky should have an extraordinary advantage on the glass, and only by packing the defense inside can the Hawks hope to fend off the inside attack of Kentucky. The Wildcats will need to make their perimeter shots, but they can expect to practice a lot of zone or sagging man-to-man offense in this game.
The Hawks will try to keep the Wildcats in a half-court game, and their 64.0 pace figure is the slowest team the Wildcats have faced in some time. This will be an interesting test for Kentucky, but they are almost certain to prevail.
Projected score: Kentucky, 80, Hartford 55.

Evidently. :-)
Too much Christmas cheer, probably.
Oh, well, that clears the decks for the MCB tomorrow, which is a very good thing.

will think there is a conspiracy to bypass the Bowl Game by moving up the Basketball schedule.

No UK Player Has Been Drafted 1st Overall
http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/Statistics/careernba.html here’s a list of all who were drafted.
Bowie was #2 in 1984. Tom Payne was #2 in the hardship draft (separate from regular draft) in 1971.

Cousins SEC FOW
UK is dominating this award: 6 of 8 with 3 different players. Think either Orton or Hood will get the honor?

Hartford
Anyone else gonna be at the game tonight??
It is not worth an intelligent man’s time to be in the majority. By definition, there are already enough people to do that.

time heals all wounds?
Play him sparingly tonight, if need be. All indications are that we are playing CupcakeU tonight.
I suspect a combination of healing wounds before the 2010 Campaign and, Coach Cal Camp.
No matter where you're at, there you are
I think it was just a tweak.
He’ll probably start tonight. If not, I guess we’ll know it was worse than I thought. :-)

Understood
I’d like to see him 100%, physically, as opposed to having him play another game to “learn”.
The same goes for Wall (“I’ve got [knee] tendinitis real bad”) and perhaps other’s with nagging pains.
Side note: another reason to rejoice in Cal’s hire — he gave his kids three days off for Christmas. Brilliant on many levels, IMHO. Perhaps that makes concerns null and void.
No matter where you're at, there you are
I don't think you'll see Calipari ...
… resting anything that players can play through, at least not right now. This team has a lot to learn, and every game is invaluable.
That’s just my opinion. We’ll know shortly whether or not Calipari agrees. :-)

Ready for some more basketball!!!!!
Christmas hiatus is too long for me!!!!
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
UK favored by 35....yikes
i live about 1 mile from work and get off at 7pm. This game maybe over before I get home….:)

Three a day practices
May be hard to tell how the extra practices have helped against this team tonight. Saturday should be a better “tell”. Go Cats.
