Equal Opportunity Blogging

Well, after watching 2 good games this weekend for the Cats, I figured it was about time we gave a little bit of attention to the ladies, since they have also gone undefeated this year so far. And after spending 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon glued to the set, all I can say is WOW!!! Sunday afternoon on WKYT(7,300+ attending, take that ESPN FULL COURT) that Lady Cats did something the Men have not been able to do so far this year, yet. They whipped( and I would use stronger words here, but it would be manly and overbearing, and unseemly for reporting on the women's team) the Cardinals from Louisville resoundingly. Please follow along after the jump, because this one was awesome.

Star-divide

101-67 was the final margin of victory Sunday, but the game was never really that close. UK forced 38 turnovers (yes, that's right), 21 steals (yes, that's right too) and put 4 ladies in double figures along the way and decimated the Lady Cards. The UK women were fast....(sometimes too fast), strong( I mean DeMarcus Cousins in a skirt strong) and put on a clinic of pressure defense and defending in the paint. The only weak points I could find anywhere in their game were shooting % and FT %. 39.1% from the field and 69% from the line would get you beat a lot of games, but they out-hustled, out-muscled, and out-classed Louisville all around. The women are a complete team that should compete for it all come March. Coach Matthew Mitchell has this team firing on all cylinders and making the most of their opportunities when they need to. Amber Smith was doing her best John Wall impersonation, making layups that should not have gone in, and Victoria Dunlap is a beast(a lovely one yes, but still a beast) in the paint, blocking shots, altering shots and generally making life extremely difficult for whomever got brave enough to step in there. It was really a pleasure to watch, because these Cats DO NOT play down to their competition, at all. They made it a very entertaining as well as effective show for the afternoon, and drew high praises from their coach as well. There were a couple of momentary lapses in defense that Coach Mitchell will make note of in practice, but all in all this was in a word, awesome. And the best part of it all was that I got to watch it, for free. But honestly, I would have paid to see this kind of a performance. I guess my daughter is going to expect me to watch all the time now, but I will let you in on a little secret, If they play like this, it wont take much arm-twisting to get me to give up whatever I am doing and watch this with her. Way to go Cats............
