Louisville's Strong Apparently Is Serious About Recruitng Kentucky Players

Only on the job a short period, it seems he is grabbing some of the better talent in the state

Star-divide

This isn't a repost. Louisville continues to gather in state players. And don't we need something about football on the board?

With three of the better recruits in Kentucky committing to Louisville it appears Louisville is going to try to control the state's more athletic players.

Of course there is the argument that there isn't that many good players in the state. Wonder if it were the same when the Cats brought in Burton, Tamme, Woodson and crew?

Kentucky doesn't need the state to be a winner. That's been proven.  But will taking the left overs in other states be enough.

I know we are getting a few from Tennessee and Georgia. Good stuff. Wonder if LaGrange has anyone else going to schools out of the region?

I hope Brooks and his staff have sown deep seeds in these areas. It appears the ones in state got blown away in the drought.

The staff needs to look at the name of the school and see if we can find some of the good ones to play at he UNIVERSITY of KENTUCKY!

Hello

The other one on a simular subject had almost 50 some posts so it appeared to me that there is something others may wish to consider other than basketball 24/7.
Let it die if you don’t care.

I have be correctly accused of having a 'football fetish'. You know, someone who doesn't think football is the warm up sport to basketball season.

Thanks to Brooks that he gave

Tamme a scholarship after Morris wouldn’t. I feel pretty comfortable that the coaches know what players to go after in Kentucky. I guess we are getting another Kentucky kid committing this weekend.

The general recruiting consensus is that this is a down year for football recruits in Kentucky

As you note, this staff has done an admirable job of evaluating in-state talent that has been over-looked by the national recruiting services.

You note Andre Woodson, but were you aware that under Joe Washington at North Hardin High School he played exclusively in an option-based running attack? The kid had never thrown the ball down the field with any regularity prior to stepping in as the starting QB at UK.

That same year, Brian Brohm created headline after headline leading a high powered offense at Trinity.

UK also pulled in guys like Micah Johnson who I saw play against the woefully undermanned Ft. Knox in the Army Bowl during his senior year. Everyone knew he would be a stud.

The coaching staff you love to blast successfully netted the big name out of Ft. Campbell while also correctly evaluating the diamond in the rough from Radcliff. I have seen nothing out of them that would lead me to believe that they have lost their ability to do that in recent years. They signed big name Morgan Newton out of Indiana while identifying LaRod King again out of North Hardin who didn’t even have the best receiving stats in his county (that would be Chris Gohman of E-town who now plays at Georgetown College).

6 years ago or 1 year ago, Coach Brooks and his staff have consistently shown the ability to recruit and develop players from Kentucky and the surrounding areas. Just because UofL is improving their standing, I’m not sure I follow why you think Brooks and Co. would all of a sudden lose their ability.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

You've convinced me!

neck cracker, I only know what I read and don’t have inside info like you. I just have to go by the so called professionals that rate the state, They only do it for a living so why would they know?
From what I’ve read, and certainly you can’t go by that, Kentucky has either the last or next to last rated class in the SEC. They do have more recruits than anyone else but a low overall score. Louisvile’s class it seems again it rated better,
But again, you cetrainly have more insight so I’m going to stick with you and again watch use reap the benetits from Rich and Joker.

According to Rivals UK class ranks 55

and UL rank 78. The star ratings are equal at 2.41 at this time.

But again its those who give us all this false information that makes it confusing

I know this is all a bunch of junk but some would interpret this as the Cardinals having a edge over the Cats in the Top 10 in the state. Just what I read. And wonder why Stanford, Tennessee, or Notre Dame would come into Kentucky if we don’t ‘have it’ this year?

We can't expect the top recruiting class every year

But I have seen no reason to doubt the current establishment. We were gaining ground on UofL before Petrino left, and we exploited the Krags debacle for all it was worth in the recruiting battles.

I certainly am no insider when it comes to talent, I can only comment on the specific examples I had the good fortune of watching. I also saw Chris Todd, Brandon Deaderick, and Zipp Duncan play at Etown. Duncan was a skinny tight end when he played there… UK has turned him into an SEC caliber offensive lineman.

The evolution of Woodson from option QB to pro-style mega-arm and Duncan to the line is the sort of “coaching them up” that I’m talking about. Until Brooks and Phillips give me cause to worry, I won’t question it.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
