This is the official A Sea of Blue Open Game thread for the Kentucky Wildcats @ Indiana Hoosiers today at noon. Game particulars are as follows:

Location Assembly Hall Bloomington, Ind.
This is a big game for Kentucky, as all rivalries are. For once, Calipari is playing a team where he is actually friends with the coach instead of rivals. But the two programs are big rivals, and this is a rivalry game.

To win this game, UK must:
- Play better defense from the perimeter.
- Get everyone involved in the game.
- Beat the Hoosiers on the offensive glass.
- Get the ball inside.
IU's keys to victory are:
- Get back on defense.
- Get defensive rebounds.
- Attack the UK big men.
- Avoid turnovers.
This game is a tradition that goes back a long way. UK needs to prove that it is improving, and I consider the last game a sideways effort. We need more, and hopefully, the young, restless Wildcats will deliver.

Yeah.
Actually, that should have been a foul on the defense. IU knocked him down when he had possession, and the contact gave the defensive player the advantage, and it was initiated by the defense.

IU is shooting 63% from field (both 2 and 3) and are still trailing. I think Calipari adjusts at the half and we at least do what we did against UConn

We have absolutely dominated the boards this game.
That’s all hustle and very promising for the rest of the season. Also, it doesn’t hurt to notice that there are 10 minutes left and we have 67 points, which is more than we would have scored in some weeks the past couple years.

Ya know, this Indiana team is just not a good team. Not like the great teams of old here. And Kentucky, they are winning, but remember, just a year ago this team didn’t even make the tournament. They’ve run two coaches out of town in two seasons. Calipari may not know what he’s gotten himself into. Look at that shot. That is terrible shot selection.

But totally off-putting when they talk about things other than the game when game action is hot. Or even when the game is in play at all, though that is a pipe-dream.
I recall watching an interview with a person in the audience
who was not associated with either team, during gameplay, with the camera away from game, a few years back. That’s the ultimate no-no.

I don't mind hearing about them.
They’re great. But their fans can’t complain that we’re getting the majority of attention right now. Their schedule is, as you point out, godawful. Especially when compared to ours.
In their defense, Memphis was supposed to be a top 10 team and UCLA is way down this year. Still, Kansas yet to prove much of anything THIS year other than they can beat the crap out of crappy teams.

why aren’t they ranked?
When your only loss is a one-possession loss to the number one team, and you beat everyone else by 30….
I suspect it's because the teams they've beaten are a collective 18-29
And they’ve all been at home.
They have a couple of away games coming up. If they win those, I imagine by next week enough teams will fall out to make room for them.

but then again, excluding the game against Memphis, opponents defeated by Kansas are a collective 17-33.
so put those two season-to-date performances side by side
and you see:
Preseason#1 plus win over Memphis by 2 pts = #1 ranking
Preseason unranked, plus 2pt loss to Kansas = unranked
Right.
Pre-season rankings are obviously the difference. But the pre-season rankings aren’t completely erroneous, either. There is a logic to them as well.
The good news is that preseason rankings, and rankings in general, mean very little in college basketball. If memphis continues to win, they’ll move up, and if Kansas loses they’ll drop. Either way, it all ends….IN MADNESSSSSSSS

according to the Sagarin ratings there are 12 undefeated teams in his top 40, as of Friday.
at 9-0 yesterday were Syracuse, Villanova, Kentucky, New Mexico & Texas Tech.
