Road wins mean a lot, but what about winning at home

I agree that the team has made great strides in the past few years to legitimize themselves in the toughest conference in the country.  I agree that 3 SEC road wins is a feat that we should be very happy about.  What I don't agree with is letting our coaching staff off on making mistakes that cost the team games.  What I don't agree with is how 3 SEC road wins can possible trump 2 SEC home losses that could have been won.  I think we have a good (not great) coaching staff.  They are certainly better than the coaches they have at that glorified community college in Louisville, and they have turned UK football into something to get excited about watching.

That said, I had season tickets this year for the first time since I was a student.  You know what I saw all year watching my CATS play at home?  Well it wasn't anything to get excited about.  Quite frankly other than tailgating with my friends and family, I had more fun watching them win those road games at home.  I saw them try their hardest to give UofL the game early in the season.  I saw them get beat by two of the best teams in the country in Alabama and Florida.  I saw them beat down on two teams that didn't really make for much of a game in EKU and Louisiana-Monroe.  I nearly froze to death to watch my CATS choke in the 4th quarter (mainly because of coaching) against MissSt.  Lastly, I had to stand there a watch as a win streak almost as old as I am was kept alive by a poor coaching decision against UT.

Now I know I don't have all the facts.  Joker said that "they don't have a two minute drill" for Cobb.  Cobb and Locke both might have been so tired that they couldn't move and were receiving oxygen on the sidelines.  Joker could have been having a stroke that interrupted him screaming to anyone and everyone with a freaking brain to put Cobb into the game.  What I do know is that when the game was on the line (MissSt & UT), our coaches gave the ball to a freshman instead of the most explosive player we have on the field (Cobb).  Unless that freshman's first name is John, last Wall, and he's playing indoors with a different ball, this is simply unacceptable in my book and I think our coaches need to answer for it.

By the way, I having nothing but love for our players.  I don't in anyway think that we should do anything but cheer our team on as they go to a bowl game for the 4th year in a row.  I just hope that it doesn't come down to the 4th quarter in the redzone.

I will bow to my

son’s first hand experience and agree fully with his assessment!!!!:-) I will also admit he’s a chip off the old block and be the first to welcome him to ASOB. He’s smarter than his Dad so anyone that wants to disagree should come with some hard facts.

You bring up some good points.

I think it is a sign of relative inexperience that UK has failed to win at home. There seems to be more pressure at home whereas there are fewer expectations on the road. I’m really grasping here, but maybe they find it easier to concentrate, focus and compete mistake free on the road than in front of the fans.

Yes, we lost two completely winnable games at home and should have lost a third to Louisville. Those things happen in college football and will surely happen again in the coming seasons. However, what should never happen is not getting the ball to your best playmakers in crucial situations. Can’t change that now, but would love to hear a CREDIBLE answer from the Head Coach or the Head Coach of Offense.

Great first post, UKlvrBM

I clicked on your profile… you mean to tell me that your dad actually cried after the Duke game… geez… what a wuss…!!

[Ha!] Just kidding…. your dad is a good guy! ;-)

Actually, I think a lot of people may have cried then— I remember that I just sort of walked around in a daze, like I had just been thrown from my car in an auto accident and didn’t know where I was…

And Cobb was in the game already. They just didn’t let him touch the ball. (I have therapy scheduled on Thursdays for the next 4 weeks… so I may be over it soon…)

Again, welcome!

Thanks for the correction.

Cobb was in the game, just not under center which is what I meant. I think the time I was trying to figure out a way from my end zone seat into Joker’s box so that I could rip the headset from.

Thankfully our basketball team has found a way to win close games for the first time in 3 years. I guess that can be my therapy. I still have nightmares about being at the VMI game and having to go to work the next day to face the UL fans that poison my workplace.

Next year

Wait until next year. We get Vandy I home I believe. And Akron and Charleston Southern. And some other buy win. That’s four. Only need two more to go bowling.

I have be correctly accused of having a 'football fetish'. You know, someone who doesn't think football is the warm up sport to basketball season.

Next year's Schedule

@ Louisville
@ UT
@ Florida
S Car – Home
Georgia – Home
Vandy – Home
LSU – Home or away
Miss – Home or away
Arkansas – Home or away
and then 3 easy wins.

Yes, I agree six wins will always be achievable given the difficulty (or lack there of) of our out of conference schedule . I am not saying they need to make it any harder, just stating the obvious.

yep

sometime they will be. Two of the three aren’t on the scheule for next year.

Here's the list.

We play Auburn here, Ole Miss in Oxford. Akron here and Charleston Southern here. One more buy win to find.
No LSU or Arkansas yet.

Thanks for the update

Did I dream UK and WKU were going to meet up in 2010?

You're right.

Four game series starts at Commonwealth in 2010, then Nashville, back to Commonwealth in 2012 and concludes the next year in Nashville. Should be fun.

I think we play Miss. St. anually.

The game will be in Starkville.

We always play three teams from the SEC West every year. Miss. St is a permanent opponent, the other teams rotate after playing a home and home series. Interestingly, the first game of the home-home is an away game for the Cats.

2010 opponents: @Ole Miss, Auburn, @ Miss St.
2011: @LSU, Ole Miss, MSU
2012: @Arkansas, LSU, @MSU
2013: @Alabama, Arkansas, MSU
2014: @Auburn, Alabama, MSI
