Here we are, ladies and gentlemen of the Big Blue Nation -- Senior Day, 2009. This is where we say goodbye to our seniors, and face our rival, the Tennessee Volunteers.
In honor of senior day, I am going to post the name, number, position and hometown of the seniors we will be farwelling tonight in their last game at Commonwealth Stadium:
| Number | Name | Pos. | Yr. | Exp. | Ht./Wt. | Hometown (last school) |

| 29 | Alfonso Smith | RB | Sr. | 3V | 6-1/208 | Louisville, KY (Waggener HS) |
| 32 | Trevard Lindley | CB | Sr. | 3V | 6-0/179 | Hiram, GA (Hiram HS) |

| 72 | Zipp Duncan | T | Sr. | 3V | 6-5/291 | Magnolia, KY (Elizabethtown) |
| 76 | Justin Jeffries | T | Sr. | 3V | 6-6/320 | Louisville, KY (St. Xavier HS) |
| 78 | Christian Johnson | G | Sr. | 3V | 6-4/330 | Ft. Campbell, KY (Hargrave Military Academy) |
| 80 | T.C. Drake | TE | Sr. | 3V | 6-6/242 | Bardstown, KY (Hargrave Military Academy) |

| 89 | Anthony Cecil | WR | Sr. | 1V | 6-0/194 | Hodgenville, KY (Larue County HS) |
There are a lot of guys we are going to sorely miss from this list. Guys like Maxwell, the Johnsons, Gonzalez, Lindley, Cobb, Duncan, Connor, Smith, Drake. These are guys who have believed in this program and made a major impact on it. Twenty seniors, and all of them leave very big shoes to fill.
At this point, with this team, stats don't matter. This is about emotion, about a 24-game losing streak, about seniors who, unlike the seniors from last year, have never known futility. These guys are winners, and for the most part, they have won their entire time here at Kentucky. I can't say enough about what they have done to resurrect this program from the darkness and defeat that was UK before they came.
This is a huge game, and winning this one would send our seniors off properly, as they so richly deserve. Let's cheer them on.
Go 'Cats!

Now we have GOT to hold them
holding them without a score would do wonders for getting ahead. I don’t like a 7 point lead. we’ve already seen they’re quick strick ability.
Why do they always interview the fans with those accents?

Not really. Lived in Lex for 5+ years
Maybe 4 of the hundreds of people I know had a southern accent. Still, better than interviewing a “Wine & Cheese” UNC basketball fan.

I hope Rich can motivate
up by 7 like he can motivate down by 14
First half -
Good – Maxwell, Cobb, Locke, Offensive line, Offensive/Defensive gameplan
Bad – Punting, Kicking
Jury Out – Defensive secondary, Halftime adjustments, Newton – gaining confidence with each pass but still locking on receiver, needs to spread it around and shouldn’t run the ball except on edges
Hope Gonzales and Conner are not hampered too much by 1st half nicks, they will be sorely needed in 2nd half

Failure
to use Cobb on that goal line series is malfeasance.
Cost
us 3 points, he more than made that up. When the basketball game is on the line, we want the ball in Wall’s hands. Cobb is that man on the football field.

Lane Kiffen
said that Cobb could be a difference of 14 or 21 points in the game. They feared what he could do and definitely had to be glad he didn’t handle the ball on the last two attempts to make the end zone.
Once again
Brooks and company leave another program changing win on the field. Make all the excuses you please, totally out coached after first quarter on o and d. We have no offensive identity and our d can’t stop any kind of run up the middle. What a dissapointment
by daniel81 on Nov 28, 2009 10:37 PM EST via mobile reply actions
I am sad for the team.....not disappointed with the team
they played hard
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
I am
not disappointed with the players, they gave it their all.
The announcers
of the game could see that Newton was starting to show the stress. Why couldn’t Joker?
There have been very good freshman qb's this year... Newton is not one of them
He will grow as a player, but he is not there yet
No matter where you're at, there you are
Sorry tenken
But I disagree. When you’re getting the ball rammed down your throat play after play you’re not playing with heart. Twenty yards up the middle to end the game and not even 1finger on him

Tired of
hearing how tough the team played or how they almost won the game. I have been hearing that crap for ever. Tonights game made me sick I am tired of pathetic play calling that loses the game. I know Newton is a freshman but he still should be able to hit wide open receivers. I knew UT had the game won as soon as UK kicked the tying field goal. I was so hoping Brooks would go for it on 4th down and try to win the game.
I would not have been upset had we lost that way

Almost makes you
wish we played them in Knoxville. We’ve won the big road games and just sucked at home
Maybe I'm misinterpreting
But it seems that a number of you think that if every offensive play from scrimmage is a run play using Cobb or Locke, that we would have more success on offense. Does that assume defenses do not adjust?
no, that's not what I'm saying...

argument makes more sense
…when we run 3 straight plays or a whole series without using our best playmakers.
But I don’t think it’s right to be so negative about the play when Newton ran the ball on 3rd down. Didn’t we give the ball to Cobb once or twice on that set of downs?

cobb got us down there
then newton ran the ball
drive
1st-10, Tenn37 2:21 R. Cobb rushed to the left for 13 yard gain

3rd down call with newton keeping was not bad call….
just looked at it again – defender did a great job shedding the lead blocker – newton probably would have scored otherwise….

If Conner was the lead blocker
it would have worked. We missed The Terminator in the worst way on that play.
heck, I'm no football expert
I don’t know if the play calling sucked or not.
But I do think it’s easy for unhappy fans to be unfair to the coaches after a loss.

guilty...
but would rather “blame” the coaches than the players. :)
guess we should be happy we got the shot to tie it…that was a heck of a hit.
if we win, ut fans are all over kiffin for that pass play….

agree....
just wondering why no locke – they set it up with a fake to him in motion on cobb’s run
also, the option pitch has worked well – was suprised that locke was leading as a blocker on the 3 down at end of regulation rather than trailing….

I am glad to know we have so many coaches here willing and able to take us to more than 4 consecutive bowls :-)
just saying…. may be a lot of hindsight here gang…all hindsight I would think….just saying
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
i just mad about the 0-25 thing
thats what hurts the most – oh, and losing to kiffin….

I know.....it does hurt...but.....
if the plays had worked better and changed the score in our favor, they would have been brilliant plays. We only see that they did not work at the time. That makes for questionable play calling comments. That is all I am saying.
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
just went back and looked at our last drive in regulation
the 3rd down call with newton on the sweep was not a bad call -
if locke had actually made his block, newton might have scored. the defender did a great job of shedding the block…
as i recall, i have seen the newton keeper around the end work well in several games..

Cobb’s heart would have gotten the win- I agree
"You are what you are and you ain't what you ain't"
I really don't think the playcalling was that far off
Kentucky is really limited offensively, we have Locke, Cobb and a freshman arm at quarterback. There is only so much you can do and going away from your tendencies is a roll of the dice but often effective in those situations. In essence, if we had shown up after the half it wouldn’t have come down to the end of the game. We were scoreless in the 3rd quarter, that’s where the game was lost.
Probably contributed to
Locke’s reduced load in the second half; plus whatever injury which must have been bothering him.
LSU gets the win in OT
Ga leads Ga Tech by a touchdown in the 4th
bottom line
we all love the cats soo much, it just makes us sick when they lose, andd, we all become coachs and armchair QB’s…..thats what loyal fans do when we lose….the guys played their hearts out tonight, and this season…..My hats off to them
hop on ABC and root for the Dawgs
6:45 to go
UT had too many big 3rd down plays
and we had too many stupid penalties. Throw in a terrible OT and you have 25 in a row. IT SUCKS!!!
sucks is putting in mildly...
not claiming we are great, but we are better than 0-25

Coach Brooks
on the radio. Was asked about the final drive in regulation, using the wildcat, using Cobb.
I didn’t catch it all, but he said something about needing to do something where we could operate with the call in place at the line of scrimmage, and we don’t practice doing that in the wildcat with under 2min to go in the game. (I guess that means clock management and play calling??)
About Cobb, he said: “Cobb was pretty well gassed.” Said you may have noticed that during the time out, he was not even in the huddle. Cobb was given an IV at halftime.
About considering going for it on 4&3 in regulation. Brooks said, no, he didn’t consider it.
thanks -
he should not have gone for it on 4 and 3 – thats what you do on madden 2010….

more Coach Brooks
On John Connor
he got a bilateral stinger
couldn’t raise either arm
pinched nerve affected both arms
his blocking was missed in 4th Qtr
On our fans
I’m really disappointed for our fans
they did everything they needed to do tonight
we didn’t deliver on the field
Coach Brooks on SEC bowl teams
A lot of SEC teams are 7-5, what’s really bad, is that we are 3-5 in the SEC, in a tie with SC.
He didn't say it
but I assume the implication is that since we lost to SC, we are not only 3-5, but we rank below SC. Does that mean we are 5th in the East, instead of 2nd, all from an OT loss?
by Gobe Igbloo on Nov 28, 2009 11:21 PM EST up reply actions
yes, it does
had we won, we’d be tied at 4-4 with two teams we beat (Georgia, UT), instead we are tied at 3-5 with a team that beat us (SC)….therefore, we finish only ahead of Vanderbilt. Yuck.

yes
see above – probably means music city at best…
not sure how anyone was saying chic-fil-a if we lost..

yeah
but will the bowl committees look at us as “5th” or will they look at us as “in that big pack in the middle, with X fans who will travel Y distance and spend Z dollars?”

maybe --
got to figure UT gets picked ahead of us as their fans are excited after missing last year.
UGA fans – who knows, but got to be disappointed with program
USC fans – probably not much better than uga fans
so yes – we have a shot to move up, but got to believe thats what keeps us from shreveport…
Ark is probably headed to liberty – especially if houston wins cusa championship -
lsu and ole miss get picked ahead of us.
that leave auburn vs uk for music city and shreveport….

Bottom line...
We didn’t play the game we needed to to win… Lots of things contributed that:
- Too many penalties… Two consecutive blocks in the back on the kickoffs?? Gave TN good field position on both of those posessions
- Hardesty had a great game and we didn’t man up on the D-line and stop him! Played our standard 4-3 against the run and it hurt us. When we brought another defender up on the line we did pretty well against the run.
- Turnovers hurt us…
- Coach Sanders really needs to work with Newton on his mechanics over the next few weeks… He’s been throwing a “high” ball all year.
Having said all that, who here on ASOB would have thought that at the beginning of the seaon we’d have had a chance to even play for 2nd in the SEC East?? Papa B has put together another good year and the team has done well. Our Seniors deserved to win the game tonight but it just didn’t happen and I’m sorry for them!
If your wings don't sweep....
That's right
if we had lost to Georgia and beaten Tennessee, we’d be in the same situation and we’d all be happy tonight!

Tennessee is our albatross...
But I think Randell Cobb will beat them once before he leaves UK…

Yeah, you’re right, haven’t thought of it that way…. Push comes to shove, I’d really rather it would have worked out like you said! :-)
If your wings don't sweep....
but wouldn't that be better-
according to you, we need to fire our coach….
Sorry – could not resist – as another site has pointed out – we need a sarcasm font!!

But our staff needs to learn how to adjust. We have left too many victories on the field the past three years.
