How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Cats

It gets harder and harder to come up with catchy headlines... So, worried about that less than stellar performance in Cancun yesterday? Think we may be giving our young men too much credit too soon?

Well, don't be, because we are as far along as everyone else out there right now and I can tell you why.

Star-divide

5-0 start still doesn't get your heart racing, eh? You see turnover after turnover and missed free throws and sloppy play and wonder when the bottom is going to fall out from under our dream season?? It isn't going to. We have some really good news coming out of a lot of places today, so let me share. Our first tidbit is that we may have some guys returning from their banishment from Camelot in the next few days. Word from the loathsome troll is that Dodson could be back on the floor as soon as tonight, and that the Incredible Mr. Liggins(stolen from another movie of similar title, bonus points if you know it, starred Don Knotts), should be back on the floor as soon as next week.

This will allow for some "teaching sessions" during the game by Coach and the staff with Eric Bledsoe and John Wall, much like the little session he had with Big Cuz that proved to be so effective. Then you say "well, Cousins doesn't seem to be getting the point either", and yes, he has had a little foul trouble lately, however, in his defense, the foul-calling in this Cancun Challenge has been exceptionally pathetic. They let guys bang down low like it's a heavyweight match, then call nonsense fouls that have no bearing whatsoever on the action. When you combine that with the joke of a floor they are playing on down there, it does make things interesting to say the least. Unless conditions improve, I do not think it will be likely we will be returning to the "Cancun Challenge" anytime soon.

Patrick has only "tweaked" his ankle, so do not panic about that one, and Harris returned from what can only be referred to as a "stinger" to his knee?? Either way they will both return to action tonight.Scoring on this team is not going to be a problem, unlike years past. We can hit threes, we can bang down low,we have an inside-out game, and we have guys that will burn you if you make a mistake at every position. The turnovers and foul-shooting will improve, simply because they cant get much worse. And while we are concerned about how many mistakes our guys are making, every other team is facing the same things with their group of young talent. The only reason why ours is so glaring is because the freshman is running the team. Give John Wall a couple more weeks to figure out his way through traffic, and let Eric Bledsoe do a little watching from the bench as other guys get his floor time, and things will improve. However, the person who let Demarcus Cousins attend the Shaquille O'Neal free throw shooting academy over the summer , please turn in your big blue banner at the door on the way out. DeMarcus is going to get fouled like crazy all year unless he starts hitting free throws. I do not want to see teams playing "Hack-A-Cuz" as a strategy to beat us.

Only 6 more games(wins) to go and Coach Cal will have the best 1st year start of any head coach in the history of the program. Hmmmmmmm...........maybe....maybe not.

The important thing here is folks, that we are winning as we learn. We dont let Podunk U beat us while we are figuring out how to beat UNC, IU,UL, etc. That is why I have stopped worrying......Happy Thanksgiving To All, and no I wont be missing anymore games if I can avoid it, and 'The Hat" will be with me at all times from now on.

we won for 24 points last night...

PP was on the bench for most of the 2H, we held the other team to 26% – 3 or 4 fewer TOs and 3 or 4 FTs made and it is a bigger blowout….

my wife told me last night i was obsessed – well i can tell you, i am going to enjoy the ride. i had the good fortune to enjoy the ride in memphis the last few years – however something was always missing – what was missing was that it was the wrong type of feline….no longer..i much more enjoy seeing Cals Cats to Cals tigers…..

one more thing – Cal has either learned from the past or is taking a new strategy, but in the past, he has NOT been afraid to call a kid out in the press – it typically goes something like – i will not throw a kid under the bus for making bad grades – seems he has stopped after the word “bus” this time around. not sure if it is a different Cal or if he feels likes both liggins or dobson will respond better to non public discipline.

only one rule in my house - uk has to be your favorite college bball team

W #2000 B4 The Calendar Year Is Over

Either Dec 23 or 29 but likely one of those two.

Hmmmm...

I see “sources” saying “may” and “could”, plus I’m considering the source… I guess we’ll see, huh?? Thanks for the info, nice post!

Alliteration Preferred

Instead of “Hack-A-Cuz” I prefer – for originality and alliteration sake – “Cuff-A-Cuz”. In eithr case I hope that it doesn’t become a viable strategy.

Couple of random comments and....

For alliterations sake – “Club-A-Cuz” or the “Cuz-Kills-Cats Strategy”.

Movies references I noticed: “Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb” and “The Incredible Mr. Limpet”

Kentucky has 1993 wins, UNC has 1989 wins. That scares me. Even though Chapel Hill lost to Syracuse the other night, that doesn’t mean I think we can just walk all over them when they come to Lexington. If they win that game (and assuming we win all of our games up until that point) they’ll be within 2 of our all-time winning record. With teams like UConn, Indiana, and Louisville coming up we cannot afford to lose a single game. Either way, UNC will be the fastest school to reach 2000 wins. That’s fine. They deserve it. However, if UNC eclipses us sometime between now and the 2000 mark, I’ll consider this a losing season because I know I will NEVER hear the end of it from my brother (a UNC grad and former UK fan gone traitor).

I actually got into an argument with him and about 4 of his friends last night about which team is better historically. They threw every stat they had at me: winning percentage, Final Four appearance, National Championship appearance, Tournament appearance, NCAA all-americans, NBA stars. Of course, nothing phased me, because I had the two stats that they could not argue with: 7 Championship wins (better than all the “appearances” in the world), and the most wins all time. Eventually UNC will pass us on the all-time wins list when we have a down year or two, and will pass them right back in the same fashion. But being the first to 2000 is too important to let slip away, especially this year with all the media buzz about our “all-star recruiting class”.

Got both movies......+2 for you....nice....

I think the 2000 win deal has everyone on edge……will be nice for it to be over with….I will say this….I’ll trade the 2000th win deal for another NC……I know this is reaching so far ouot there it isnt even funny, but my hope is that I get to see us pass UCLA on the NC total in my lifetime…..tell your brother to relax and enjoy the show…..cause it just gets better from here.

The game yesterday was the first that I have not seen a big jump in progress for all the guys playing

I dont think we went backwards, just didnt make more progress. I know the playing conditions are horrible, but we need a rebound game.

The Path To 2000 W

UK has 1994 now, UNC has 1989.

Both have 8 games left in 2009.

UK has tough games against UNC and Connecticut but figures to get 6 W by Dec 2009.

UNC has tough games against UK, Mich St, and Texas. Even if they get all 8 W, they only have 1997 W by Dec 2009.

Edge to the Cats.

I believe the Cats are good, especially with the opponents we've played and the dribble drive offense.

Looks to me they North Carolina, ain’t going to win 2000 by the end of the year. What in the world are they playing all of those tough opponents before the ACC schedule? You’d think they want to be ‘for real’ or something.

I have be correctly accused of having a 'football fetish'. You know, someone who doesn't think football is the warm up sport to basketball season.

UK Has 1994 W, UNC Has 1989 W

Both have 8 games left in calendar year 2009.

It is mathematically impossible for UNC to get to 2000 W in 2009.

UK hasn’t played great opponents (yet) but has 6 W anyway.

UNC Has 1990 W Now

But only 7 games to be played in Dec 2009.
