The cool thing about this game is that it will be the first time that John Wall and Eric Bledsoe have had the opportunity to play together in front of a Rupp Arena crowd. That should be very exciting, because both players have, at various times, dominated games utterly. It will be amazing to see how good they can be together.
Here are some questions I'd like to see answered, or at least the answers suggested, tonight:
- How dynamic is the dynamic duo of Wall and Bledsoe?
- Can Patrick Patterson continue to gain confidence from the perimeter?
- Will Jon Hood be able to see action?
- Will DeMarcus Cousins play like Randolph Morris, or the #2 recruit in the land?
- Can Darnell Dodson continue his outstanding play?
- Will Darius Miller again disappear, or will the assert himself?
- Will Calipari change his offense to adapt to a sagging man or zone?
- Can the 'Cats keep turnovers under 20?
I'm sure you have questions, too. Hopefully, we will all get an idea of what the answers are, or may be.

First half
this happens all the time to UK. The other team comes out full of piss and vigor — they’re playing UK after all. In the past couple of years we couldn’t handle that. This year is different I suspect.
Win or lose tonight, Cal will teach.

my ’puter is devoted to watching the game on justin.tv.
This lack of perimeter defense (or adjustments thereto) looked like a previous UK team for a while there. I was glad to see some actual points come off the dribble-drive whatever, however. It looks a lot like what I see on the courts in the park near my house, except the players are bigger and the defense adjusts quicker. It took a little poundin’ inside to get the dam broken. Hope they don’t forget how to do that in the second half.

Yeah.
UK has to defend the perimeter better. I think that my now crystallize in their minds after the beating they took the first half.
This is just the kind of game UK needs to figure out that this isn’t AAU ball anymore.

Here's the thing.
If UK wants to beat Florida this year, they had better figure out how to defend this offense.
This is very similar to what you will see Donovan do against us. Very similar. UK must learn how to defend the shuffle and pick and roll, and now is a really good time.

Let’s just hope they figured out how to do it in the first half. It’s the classic way to beat teams with superior athletes: teammates helping teammates get open shots. Of course, you don’t HAVE to use it against more athletic teams. It works against everybody.

but VMI last year, Gardner Webb, it just seems like for the past three years some nobody comes in and just shoots the ball well enough to set flame to the nets.

And maybe this has been said, but this is what makes UK a championship program – a team comes in and could kick the ball in blindfolded, but you still win because you are UK. Not that it was a perfectly played game, but Miami was blind and we still won. Wow!

It’s like in your husband’s world. When Tiger is in the hunt late, he KNOWS he’s gonna win—even if he doesn’t. That’s the kind of good swagger that’s been discussed here lately. Great to see it on a night when we had an unconscious opponent.
Not only did several of the players step up, but it was good to see the Coach do some coaching to Big Cuz on the sidelines and get some real positive results. Also, Miller stepped up in crunch time.
Overall a little too dang close, but lots of satisfying progress in some ways.

What I liked......
…Was Wall’s leadership when we went on our runs… He was so pumped up and he got his teammates pumped up…
Wall is a true stud… I just can’t say that enough…

Good, bad, and ugly...
Good: some poise down the stretch; Wall showing leadership and stone cold nerves; initiative from Cousins in 2d half; Patterson double-double.
Bad: free throw shooting; still learning the DDMO – bad decisionmaking; only 11 assists.
Ugly: Cousins 15 shots in 19 minutes and PPat 8 shots in 37 minutes.
PPpat was sick and struggled for 37 minutes, but still gave it all

Miller In The Clutch
I spent most of second half trying to get Justin.TV to work so missed most comments. Settled on just audio. I commented to myself that Darius Miller’s experience in the 19U World Games would be big. Think it was.

You're right on, Weasel.
Goes right along with Coach’s comments about how little Darius really played last year. Jumpers, rebounds, etc, when the crunch time came and MU didn’t go away show that he’s responding well to the encouragement. Good for him. Seems like a great kid as well as a player.

Well, Mr Wall saved the game tonight, but he also helped put us there
he will learn……we need to get him to learn what to do when the other teams are keying on you like that….driving the lane with 4 guys in there is not a way to get the job done, unless you are already past them…..Bledsoe made a couple of befuddling moves too, but turnovers were way down…..WAY down……so one thing offsets another

My guess is that Miami will be a dangerous team and play deep into March. A really good team with a good game plan and well executed. Not that any night wouldn’t be but, this would be a night when we could really use some Jodie Meeks. I was pleased with Wall’s game …. he will get even better. The team will learn alot from this one.

Great effort by Miami. Why didn’t we foul before that last three? Cudos to Wall for pulling up for that last jumper. He had dribbled into traffic most of the game, with little success. I don’t guess we’ll be 4th in the nation now, but that’s ok. Glad to see D. Miller step up andhit a few big shots. Double doubles by P. Pat and Big Cuz was good too. We still have a lot of work to do though… GO CATS!!
