With out a win against the Cards, the conference games would be so much more important
With out a victory over the Cards, we have to win three conference games to have a chance at a bowl. The three 'buy' wins would only get us temptingly close.
Let's look at what would happen if they did go to a national playoff.
It they don't include all 120 schools and you have to win half your games, hopefully they would reduce the number of conference games you would have to play.
Do they keep the schedule at twelive games? Let's hope so if they don't reduce the conference games. An eleven game schedule with the 8 game SEC schedule would eliminate several teams from going bowling. Only being able to schedule three 'buy' wins would mean you would have to win three conference games. Whoa, that would be painful for teams such as Kentucky, Vanderbilt and some others.
Think of the importance of the Louisville - Kentucky game then!
