Oh, Dear
Well, it seems that some players will never be satisfied with the prospect of earning millions of dollars, having women throw themselves naked and panting at their feet, being cheered by millions of fans and driven around by chauffeurs. No, some guys just have to satisfy that ever-present urge to hoist the Jolly Roger, pull out the semi-automatic firearms, and start taking stuff that isn't theirs.
So it apparently was with three Tennessee football players last night. Now, the whole thing isn't clear yet, and I suppose it could be some kind of misunderstanding ("I didn't mean it when I pulled the gun and told them to give me everything they have, officer! It was just a prank, I swear!") or a case of mistaken identity, but it doesn't look likely.
Oh, and then there's this:
A Volunteer TV News photographer on the scene captured the suspects while they were being identified. At least one of them wore a black University of Tennessee t-shirt with an orange Adidas logo and the phrase “impossible is nothing.”
Well, except maybe ever playing SEC college football again. That just might be impossible. The NFL, now, who knows - lots of felons seem to make it in that league. Armed robbery just might be a résumé builder.
Does this remind you of anything? Let me give you a hint:
Just substitute a Toyota Prius for the convenience store, add a couple of guys, shake well, and voilà. Well, at least they had the good grace not to terrify the poor victims further by using an Uzi. Or perhaps they just couldn't afford one.
God, that is a funny picture. I giggle like a schoolgirl every time I see it, but I'm sure that's a character flaw ...

Maybe Kiffin will go the Urban Meyer route...
….and suspend them for the first half of their next game….
First time I shot her, shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...

.. or handle it internally, like Pitino
Because his punishments are a whole lot worse than the pokie.

I hate to say it,
but the UT football porgram has been home to more than their fair share of rogue football players, but this takes the cake.

Alleged weapon was a bb gun. The get away car, a hybrid.
I can see it now, one of the guys says step on it — witnesses hear wrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. ROFL
Police allegedly found marijuana in the car, not so funny.

Kiffin's comment
Makes me think of Lane Kiffin comment bout any players that went to South Carolina pumping gas I guess the Vol’s players will be the ones robbing them later.

More humor...
If you’ve got some time to spare, surf on over to the Knoxville News Sentinel and take a look at all the comments (190+ as I post)…
Some of my favorites are:
“inquiringmind writes:
A PRIUS?? They committed armed robber at a gas station driving a getaway PRIUS???? I would’ve been laughing so much, every one of my bullets would have missed."
And, Drum Roll please…
“Christ_Puncher writes:
Dear Lane,
Thanks for helping with recruiting, if you need anyone else PLEASE let me know.
Sincerly
Urban."

Just use some decorum
fans and remember if this was UK. Its pretty devastating news. I am heartbroken for this team. This is the last thing that UT needed. They were on the rise and now this. These guys work hard for what they have. They don’t deserve the malicious banter from fans outside of Tennessee (I mean those not arrrested, the good ones).

Bets thing for UT at this point is that these kids were not yet an integral part of their
program. Losing these three freshmen wont kill them, but they will be missed. No one wins in this type of situation, but from looking at the comments over on Rocky Top Talk, there arent many jokes left that havent already been told. Most of what you will see here is mild by comparison.

It
really wasn’t directed at ASOB regs. I just get very frustrated about fans wishing harm or making fun of other teams. As bad as I despise Flordia, if this had happend to them…..I would honestly feel bad for them. I would feel heartbroken too. As a former athlete, I cannot imagine the frustration it would be for my teammates to put this embarrasment and distraction on my team. I would not wish it on my most hated rival.

I would not wish it on anybody.
However, when people do ridiculous things, it is sometimes necessary to… well, ridicule them.
Tennessee will be fine, but one of the things that contributes to this situation is caring more about talent than character. Of course, everybody does, to a degree, but you have to draw the line somewhere.
Tennessee had a problem with athletes of low character under Fulmer. This is a warning shot at Kiffin and his staff. Hopefully, he will take it to heart.
If you are going to have a program that doesn’t have incidents like this, you have to be very careful about who you recruit. It is possible that none of these kids had ever gotten into trouble, but if so, something influenced them to think they could get away with robbery. If I were Kiffin, that would be something I would try to sniff out immediately.

If it is the case that they have never done anything like this before
then there really is something that needs attention paid to it. You know, in the past, we have been able to joke about kids that play ball here by saying that they could “rob a bank” and no one would care as long as they continue to contribute on the court or field. I would say that now qualifies as taboo……

I agree
Ridicule the stupid players but not the whole team or program. UT football has garnered some great athletes on and off the field. This whole situation just makes me sick! I hope Kiffin kicks them off the team. I think its the only way for him to take care of it properly.
