John Wall Cleared to Play
As Ken posted earlier, John Wall has been cleared to play this season for UK. He must sit out the first exhibition game and the regular season opener as well as repay $787.58, but after that, it is clear sailing for the #1 ranked recruit out of Word of God Academy in North Carolina.

Believe it or not,
I’m glad he’s going to play, simply because…well, he didn’t do anything wrong.

For Wall it's big news
for the other 1,247 players in the same position — it won’t be mentioned. Great news for when basketball season starts.
Yeah, well ...
… embrace the hate. And the publicity. :-)

2 game suspension... Could work in Wall's favor.
1. First this knuckle-headed fiasco is behind him
2. Now he can focus 100% on Basketball.
3. Sitting out 2 games can allow him a chance to Watch and Learn. He’ll get to watch the “forest” a couple of times, if you know what I mean. All with a high probability of no real impact to UK’s record. Cal’s a teacher. He’ll optimize this.
No matter where you're at, there you are
Wall Has To Repay $800
Not easy for a young man with no job.
I’m sure he’ll find a way but the $800 part is tougher than missing 2 games,

I dont suppose we can pay it for him....."as a loan".....
I am sure he can pay us back over the season…..
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
That Would Quickly Make Him Ineligible Again
If the “student loan” process is available, that’s better because it’s available to ALL students.

Then I say we let him get that student loan...
he might need a good paper trail….just in case :-)
Blue... there is no other color to Bleed !!!
christmas came 2 months early!
based on the facts, it seems like as good a ruling as we could have expected – however, with the ncaa, you just never know………

nice photo
Wonder what shutter speed is required to freeze movement of John Wall.
Probably professional grade DSLR only….
I tried freezing him with the DVR, so I could get a snapshot.....wouldnt work....my recording of the B-W
game couldnt be paused……I cannot figure out for the life of me how they get pics of him on the internet…..this season is going to be very therapeutic….I lost 4 lbs just watching the B-W game

Just curious
Regarding Wall’s situation. I know that he is cleared to play(as he should be).
However, I don’t understand the double standard the NCAA imposes. If a young man from wealthy parents played on the same team and received the same benefits I know he would have come under the same restrictions. But having parents that could easily afford to pay back the money he is approved to play. Now if you come from a single parent family that is struggling in the current economy and you family cannot come up with the $ then the NCAA says you are not allowed to play? How is this fair and equal treatment?
Something seems very wrong here.
Actually I Think There Is A Potential Penalty (Suspended 1+ Games)
Just for playing on AAU team where coach is licensed NBA agent. Not sure though.

I don't know either
But if it is, why haven’t I heard anything about the Duke player that played on the same team as Wall?
As much as I hate the NCAA, I havent seen them do that ....YET....
if I missed something , please enlighten me….I do love me some NCAA complaints….
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
my only thought is that the wealthier kid's parents paid...
from the beginning so there was nothing to pay back…
forty’s angle is the best one. however, as i read the wall case, wall is being suspended for taking the payment, not playing for a team coached by an agent…

Am I Missing Something Here?
A fellow with the screen name John1 on the LHL web site raises a question for which I have yet to see an answer. John Wall is suspended for TWO games, right? And Kentucky plays TWO exhibition games, right? So media reports have Wall sitting out against Campbellsville and the season opener against Morehead. What about the Clarion game on November 6th? Does this mean he can play in that game?
Thank you!
I was thinking exactly the same thing!
It makes absolutely no sense (to me) that he should have to sit out two games that at present seem to be random. Why doesn’t he have to sit out two consecutive games? Wouldn’t that be the most logical?
In the end, I suppose it really doesn’t matter all that much, and I’m extremely happy to hear the news that he only has to sit out two games, but I’m confused by this also.

Just for the heck of it, I wrote to Mike DeCourcy of The Sporting News and asked him the same question. This is his reply: "That’s what the NCAA ruled. Simple as that. "
Yeah ...
… I wondered about that as well.
I suspect that the NCAA gave them a choice of one exhibition and one regular season game. So I imagine the answer is that we will see him against Clarion.
But that is pure speculation on my part.

I think
that this all stinks to the high heavens. Glad that the young man (started to say “boy”, and I don’t have a racist bone in my body! It’s just a habit of mine when addressing anyone under the age of 47, which of course I have no idea where that random number came from!) is going to play all but one official game. Does anyone at all know the exact story about the Kelly kid from Duke? I hear that he should be in the exact same situation as Wall. I’d like some official information on this, because the NCAA has been known to play favorites with Duke on occasion. Some wealthy UK lawyer(s) should take this up for free. If this is another case of predjuduce on the part of the NCAA, whether it’s “for” anyone or “against” anyone, they should have their feet held to the fire! I’m sick and tired of ruling authoritative parties refusing to have any real levels of accountability to have to answer to. Who do I write to?!
When a great nation falls, it falls from within. There is only two ways to do this. One must "take" power by force, or when the other side simply "gives" it to them. me
In response to this ...
Does anyone at all know the exact story about the Kelly kid from Duke? I hear that he should be in the exact same situation as Wall.
I think the answer was in Calipari’s quote the other day that 10-15 other kids were in the same situation. But by far, the biggest fish is Wall, and that’s who the sports media chose to focus on.
It is what it is.

I bet they all (sports media) voted for Jerry Tipton in the last election too......;-}
