A Kind Request From Ken H.
Those who have been reading A Sea of Blue for any length of time know that we seldom stray from covering the 'Cats and their athletic pursuits. But, for just a moment I would like to issue a non-sports related personal request.
My father-in-law, and huge UK fan, Joe Morehead, has recently been diagnosed with what amounts to terminal cancer. It's in his liver, and sadly, there just isn't anything they can do for him. He's only 58 years old.
I know that cancer strikes hundreds-of-thousands people every year, and my intent is not to imply that my family members plight is any more important than the thousands of others stricken with this terrible disease. But, I have decided to use the forum that Tru has given me to discuss UK sports, to in this case, ask for your help.
If you could find the time to send Joe and encouraging note, I think it would lift his spirits as well as his resolve. Hearing encouraging words from fellow UK followers, strangers in one sense, but kindred spirits in every sense, should have an uplifting effect, and that's what I'm looking for.
If you feel like this is something that you would like to do, Joe's address is:
Joe Morehead
1412 Clayton Court
Bowling Green, KY 42101
Thanks,
Ken

Makes Me Cry and I Understand So Well
Ken,
When my dad was dying of cancer, I did the same thing. I asked people I knew and others I only knew via the internet, to send cards and say prayers. He received hundreds of cards from all around the world and I believe it meant a great deal to him.
During his final days, he was at home with Hospice and not responsive to anyone. But the nurses kept telling us to talk to him, that he could hear us. So on the last day of his life, not knowing whether it was the right thing to do or not, I turned on a Kentucky basketball game in his room, (he was a super fan and Kentucky basketball was one of our greatest bonds). I ‘talked’ about the game, hoping he was hearing the Cats win one more time.
You and your family are in my prayers and it will be my privilege to send him a card. This year should bring moments of happiness to all Wildcat fans, even during their darkest times. I hope he gets to enjoy some great games this season.

My Opinion
Maybe, maybe not could his physical body (ears) “hear” what you said to him.
But I’m quite certain that his spirit, his soul, his immortal self heard everything you said.

thank you.
Made me cry again.
You know, the instructions for my own graveside service are to sing Will the Circle Be Unbroken, and launch right into the UK fight song as they lower the casket into the ground.
Lots of joy from our Cats over a lifetime, and so many Kentuckians bonded forever by our Blue Blood.
Thank you 40!

On it boss.
I have kleptomania,

I take something for it.

We have spoken about this ...
… but I will be sending him a note today. May God grant him victory over this terrible disease. Our prayers are with him, you and your family.

My heart goes out to you Ken and
your entire family. I will remember everyone in my prayers and will send a little cheer to Joe. I am more than happy to do so. This is a good thing you are doing for him.
Remember Ken, just like with our teams, we try to have a little extra faith even when we don’t think we are able. God is great and He will supply all our needs.

I'll Do That (Send A Note)
He’s 58. I’m 58.
Life dealt him a terrible turn with that cancer diagnosis. He didn’t deserve it.

God bless
Joe and all your family in this time of need. I go to a small country church, and we will put his name on the prayer board. I have seen it work wonders before. Take care…
