Name Those Cats (Basketball Trivia)
As a team, we won 34 games by an average margin of 30 points per game.
We had 12 players on our roster who were either drafted by or played in the NBA.
However, we did NOT win a national championship despite most observers considering us the best team in the nation and (at the time) the best UK team ever.
Most of us went on to even bigger fame and glory in subsequent years.
Can you Name Those Cats?

1946-47 NIT Runners Up
That team was nasty, or so my great papaw said.
Seriously though, they put some serious beat downs on some teams. Bet they were fun to watch.

Yep
Correct.
IMO they are UK’s best team that did not win national title.

Yeah,
my guess is the ‘46-’47 team, as well. It has to be.
That team won the SEC tourney in Louisville, but ended up losing in the NIT (the “it” tourney at that time) that was held in New York to Utah, of all teams.
Fun post, Forty. And yes, I cheated, I totally looked it up. ; )
I know that 6 went on to play for Indianapolis....not sure where the rest went.....
a small bit more trivia……the coach of the Olympians was also a Wildcat…..who was he??
Hint…..he was more than just their coach……
Remember, we're having fun now!!!
My Father-In-Law Was On The Utah Team A Few Years Earlier
But he dropped out of school to enlist in the WW2 effort.
Arnie Ferrin remains his good friend to this day. Ferrin told me (at his 80th birthday party) that Alex Groza was his toughest opponent ever, tougher than Mikan even.
Ferrin is the only 4-time A-A ever. Unless Tyler H tied him at UNC from 2006-09.

That’s cool.
Sometimes I forget that the popular powerhouse college basketball teams of today are not necessarily the same teams of much earlier times (like the ‘40’s) and that the Utah men’s college basketball team (and some of the players) probably did have their day in the sun. : )
would that be
in 1954 we went undefeated 25-0 but rupp refused to play tournment because many players had technically graduated during preseason but no nba. But i think you are talking about 1996 The untouchables who include Derek Anderson , Tony Delk , Walter McCarty , Ron Mercer , Nazr Mohammed , Mark Pope , Jeff Sheppard , Wayne Turner , Antoine Walker. And im 26 been a fan all my life.
in 1947 ..
only 3 players were drafted from that team to nba Joe Holland, Ken Rollins, and Jack Parkinson. we played second in nit 46-47 year that was rupps runts team
