Chip On the Shoulder Time
Rivals.com college football writer Tom Dienhart has labeled Auburn's loss to Kentucky this past weekend "appalling".
Note not only the adjective used but the emphasis. According to Dienhart and his ilk, Kentucky did not win the game. Rather, Auburn lost it. "Appalling."
Given the state of Wildcats football through the years, Dienhart's statement and emphasis is understandable. However, were I Rich Brooks and were I looking for a way to further motivate my charges - and guard against any let down - I would post that statement on a bulletin board. Then I would say,
"this, lads, is what we're up against, this perception that we don't beat other teams. Instead, they lose to us And I am frankly sick of it. Yes, we stunk up the place that first quarter against Florida and yes, we shot ourselves in both feet against Alabama, and yes, yours truly here made a couple of boneheaded calls against South Carolina, but I'm here to tell you, I am PROUD of you and I am proud to wear Wildcat blue. More to the point, I am seeing progress. We lose Mike, Trevard, Paul, Justin, Jake, and you guys don't give up. You man up. And the Tom Dienharts of this world are missing something. They overlook the fact that you guys are the first and so far only team to hang over 100 rushing yards on Alabama. They overlook the fact that you put up over 200 yards rushing against a solid South Carolina defense and then tacked on 282 against Auburn AT Auburn. They overlook the low number of sacks you guys have allowed and the fact that you're cutting down on mistakes. They're also ignoring the fact that our defense is getting better and better with each week that passes. For God's sake, West Virginia is a ranked team and they couldn't shut down Auburn's offense. You lads did.
"So yeah, I am sick to death of this notion that the Auburns of this world should beat us on the field. Instead, I want to see us feared and respected by the teams we play. I want them to know that when they see the University of Kentucky Wildcats pouring onto the field, they're gonna know they're in for one heck of a battle. Doesn't matter who they are or what colors they wear; they're in for it.
That's what we're aiming for and I'm here to tell you, we can do it. And when the season's done, maybe the Tom Dienharts will look around and say, "ah, now we understand why Kentucky BEAT Auburn.
"Now let's get back to work."

Not Exactly "Win One for the Gipper"
But I figure something like it would set the right tone for the rest of the season. UK needs to cop – let’s say – a “Cattitude”. No matter who they’re playing, I’d like to see them come out mean and hungry and really getting after the other guys.

Haha.
Nice job there, and your point is true. I have a feeling that any “upsets” we pull this year or even close wins against inferior competition will be chalked up to our opposition losing the game.
It should be a good motivator – let’s beat Georgia and Tennessee so badly that there’s no argument that we won the game.
Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.

Time For a "Signature Season"
The Cats have faced their usual string of adversity this year, key injuries, bad breaks, iffy play calls, miscues, and what not, but I like the way they have hung tough. In years gone by, they likely would have folded their tents and slipped off into the sunset, but it’s a tribute to coaches and players that they are staying the course.

This team is capable of winning out
if they stay motivated. This team can be as good as GA and TN if they continue to play hard and smart. Somehow Brooks found a way to motivate the players to start fast. Lets keep that up! I’m pumped!

Gotta Believe
I notice Derrick Locke and a couple of others are a bit banged up, including Randall Cobb. This year though, the Cats have that offensive line and the best dang blocking back anywhere, John Conner to open holes for whichever back(s) get the ball. I rather expect Alfonso Smith, Moncell Allen, and the rest are champing at the bit to get into the games and go. Add in a defense that gets better by the week and by season’s end I truly believe this team can be something special.

Motivation Board Posting
Coach can also add Rivals.com top 120 by Mike Huguenin — who starts off his commentary on the Wildcats with “Don’t laugh…”
(after ranking us 12 spots below the team we just beat)

Just Checked
And according to Rivals.com, Micah Johnson is the 25th ranked linebacker in the country while Trevard Lindley has slipped to 20th on the list of defensive backs because of his injury. No other player or coach gets a mention which proves two things: 1) it supports Rich Brooks’ contention that the Wildcats win at Auburn was truly a team effort and 2) Rivals.com has absolutely no idea where and how to classify Randall Cobb.

great post ornery
this team is performing well and will see a good bowl selection. by the time the season ends we should have a full compliment of players again and kicking butt rather nicely.
this is just the type of bulletin board material Coach Brooks can use to keep the chip on the shoulder mentality alive in these young men. got some trap games coming up, we need every piece of motivation.
GO BIG BLUE!!!!

Sometimes I even put it in the food.

Here's Hoping
The Cats shouldn’t be overconfident. They are hardly at the level where cruise control will see them through against anybody but hopefully they can start a trend where they beat the teams they should beat and do so convincingly. That plus a good bowl bid would give them a chance to continue giving players game and practice time as well as increasing exposure for the program.
