If you want to wallow in the win....

The win against Auburn seemed like more than just a win for the Cats. This win could be looked back as an epiphany for Kentucky football, referenced as the point the Kentucky football program took the "next step" in developing into a consistent program.

I've been known to overlook obvious warts (playcalling, recruiting, special teams coaching, etc.) in my irrational exuberance view of our program but last night's win could propel Kentucky along much as the turnaround after our blowout by LSU of a few years ago. No question Kentucky still has a ways to go but, for the moment, I just want to revel in this win.

Below are some links to help save you combing the web trying to get your fill of what folks are saying about the effort our team put forth. It was a chilly night in Alabama among a hostile crowd when so many things could have made a loss explainable.

For extra wallowing ESPNU is rebroadcasting the game at 12:00 ET. Add more links in the comments.

Star-divide

First the open thread from the Auburn side of the game. What makes this interesting is they give a quasi play-by-play from which you can monitor their emotions as the game progresses.

A little bit from the local paper. While there be sure to track down the video clips from Locke, Cobb and Brooks.

A view from the other side of the field.

A dry write-up from the Auburn Athletics site. Guess they really can't provide much editorial content. Just the facts ma'am.

Some Alabama paper write-ups here, here, here, here and here

The standard dry write-up from ESPN.

It wasn't a bowl win but it sure felt like one. I guess it has just been a long wait for a win since the L'ville game.

Coach Cal?: Hmmmmm?

Oh yeah – basketball. Isn’t Kentucky supposed to be pretty good this year? ;-)

We’ve got plenty of time until basketball. I’m dedicated to football until that time unless there’s some real news concerning bball. For now just channeling to the football team.

Turning point game?

I think this was a huge win for our team, but I’m not prepared to say that we’ve “arrived” by any stretch of the imagination. Every couple of years, this Kentucky team wins a big game that they shouldn’t. (Georgia three years ago, LSU two years ago) The ability to win those games here and there is what allows us to get to 7 wins instead of 6.

What this team still has to show is that it can take care of business in the games that we should win. Beating Auburn is nice, but ultimately it won’t mean much if we turn around and lose to Mississippi State and/or Vandy.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

So true

That’s why we always have to couch our optimism with qualifiers such as “could”, “might” and “if”. Will it be the springboard to fielding a consistently competitive SEC caliber team? Only time will tell. How much time? There’s the question.

I agree. Horse first, then cart.

However, what we have coming up are three very winneable games, and, as Tru noted elsewhere, a good opportunity for Fidler and Newton to both get some much needed experience in hopefully less pressured situations.

Four weeks from now, it’s conceivable that Newton will have developed into a stud. The raw talent and power is there, he just needs to improve his accuracy and keep his nerves in check.

Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.

Well...

Not having to throw into or with a gale force wind will be beneficial as well.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
