Midseason Poll Update - How Many Football Games Will We Win?

On September 1, I posted a poll on how many games we thought we would win this season: http://www.aseaofblue.com/2009/9/1/1010372/how-many-games-will-the-football

At the time, 7 was the most popular answer - with 6 and 8 equally popular as a second choice.  Recently, i have been trying to be a glass half full guy and believe 7 wins was still possible - after last night, it still is.   I guess the question is, does the number move up from there?

Anyway, with midseason upon us, i thought would be a good time to update the poll

One game does not save a season

BUT, things definitely look better than they did 2 weeks ago……we can pull off 7 wins, but that will probably be as far as we can go

Remember, we're having fun now!!!

Can Newton learn the offense?

The big question everyone has that will determine whether or not KY wins 4 or more games will be if Newton can can develope faster than any QB in history? It will be much harder to run and run and run against teams that know it’s coming. I have faith though, that we can get enough production out of the air to keep the running game dominant. CATS!

Now For a Real Test

of team and coaching staff. Do they get full of themselves after a tough road victory or do they remember the hard times and get right back to work? I’m guessing/hoping the latter.

Incidentally, a sports writer at Yahoo termed Auburn’s loss to UK “appalling”. Notice he did not refer to UK’s WIN at Auburn as a great effort on the part of the Cats. In his mind, this was UK after all and Auburn should beat the Cats. So if I’m UK football, I play the rest of the games on the schedule with a chip on the collective shoulder until the record at season’s end is 9-3, the team heading to a good bowl, and those freakin’ experts scratching their heads and wondering what the devil is happening in Lexington.

If we could have just beaten USC

You could be looking at the Capital One Bowl.

As it is, the Peach Bowl (chik-fil-a) is not out of the question.

First time I shot her, shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...

The last 3 games have been interesting

I’m not really a football guy, but the last 3 games have had an interesting trend for UK. To wit:

Alabama: blown out, but played much better than the score and would have really made it interesting were it not for 1 or 2 turnovers
South Carolina: played better than the Gamecocks for most of the game, just came up short
Auburn: best game of the year, with the result finally catching up to the effort and execution

The team just keeps playing better and better each game which of course is exactly what you want to see. The next 4 games really should all be wins, and they’ve got a good shot at splitting with Georgia and Tennessee. Hence I voted for 5 more W’s.

There is no gravity - the earth just sucks.

i would also add two things:

1) i believe uk has rushed for more yards against bama this year than anyone
2) coming into the auburn game, AU had scored an offensive td in every quarter except 2 (22 of 24, if i am not mistaken) – we held then out of the endzone (offensively) in 3 of 4 quarter.

my confidence that we can split the uga/ut games is higher now that we split usc/au – and we came closer to sweeping the last two than i would have thought preseason.

to be – for us to take the next step – we must beat the teams we are suppose to beat. that means the next 4….

only one rule in my house - uk has to be your favorite college bball team

to clarify...

bama has gave up more rushing yards to uk that they have given up to anyone else this year. did not mean our largest rushing production was against bama…
