I didn't see any news on Hartline in there
???
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
You have to follow John Clay's links.
Or, you can just go here.

Ah. Much appreciation.
Brooks should start treating Morgan Newton like UofL worked in Brian Brohm years ago. No matter the game situation, commit yourself to playing him for at least one series a game. Let him get time on the field facing an SEC defense.
No doubt about it, the kid is the future now and its time to get him some time.

I'm going to leave that to the staff.
If they think it wise, then fine. If not, fine. :-)

So lets be optimistic and say 4 weeks to recover (Professionally, I call BS on that)
That means Hartline misses Auburn, ULM, Miss St, and EKU. He would return just in time for the Vandy game. Our best chance for a bowl is to somehow beat an improved Miss St team and Vandy. As a Monday Morning Quarterback, do you think that putting Hartline back in the game just in time for the make or break game against Vandy is a good idea?
Of course, as I said in the post title so I think its probably a moot point… I find it hard to believe that his knee will be orthopedically sound in 4 weeks. Yes, the MCL heals relatively fast. But 4 weeks is time to recover from a sprain/strain injury… not a complete tear as Brooks mentioned.

I really ...
… don’t expect Hartline back this year. My own experience with damaged cartilage is that it will be more of a problem than anyone expects. The ligament may heal fine, depending on how severely it’s torn, but his mobility will likely be compromised.
But will it be Newton or Fiddler? I’m not ready to rule out either one at this point. But I doubt it will be Hartline. The best news is that he should be fully healed by next year, possibly even spring training if he has the surgery by the end of this year.

"mobility will likely be compromised"
ummmm. Mobility wasn’t really his strongest asset to begin with. Its like saying a wart won’t be quit as pretty as it used to be.
Hartline not back this year will put him behind the eight ball next year. Hartline’s strengths/weaknesses are pretty well documented and we’ve likely seen his ceiling. Newton/Mossy’s ceilings appear to be much higher. Why would we start Hartline next year when we could have a sophomore or redshirt freshmen? I hope the staff doesn’t play favorites to player simply because he’s a senior. Best player starts – regardless, that’s how teams get better in the SEC.
Yeah ...
… but you never know. That might still be Hartline. He does know the offense much better and has much more experience than all the rest, and that does matter.

surgery or no
Its the kind of injury that will bug him for life. Just this morning I had a patient in his 40s with a nagging knee pain from a college football injury.

Undoubtedly right.
Joint injuries like that only get worse with time. First hand experience tells me so.

2pt conversion, again
I feel like I have been beating this to death on asob. That being said, I disagree with john clay on his comments stating brooks would catch heck even if Cobb had lined up in the wildcat and the conversion still failed. Going back to another comment, you stick with what works! The wildcat clearly had the sc defense confused and seemed to work well the entire drive. Instead of throwing fidler into the fire of a pressure packed situation such as the 2pt conv, u use your more experienced and most talented player & if he’s gassed, use him as a decoy to draw double coverage as he did, but have it designed to be thrown to another player.!

I should get back into coaching!
Clearly joking… But I would have called a playaction roll out to Ross bogue. Did I mention I wouldve had newton running this?!

Heh.
Not Newton, Cobb. You wouldn’t want Newton taking his first snap in the SEC on a critical two-point conversion, it’s asking more of him than he asked of Fiddler, and that’s not a great way to break in a young QB. If Cobb was gassed, why was he in on the play as a receiver? I’m sure he was huffing and puffing, but I’m confident the adrenaline would be all he needed to get him through one more play.
Still, I agree with your play call. A play-action roll-out to the wide side of the field would probably have given UK the best chance for success. Either that, or a triple-option play to the the wide side.
