Exclipating Statistics
Besides the obvious — good shooting, excellent defense, lack of ball security — a number of other facets of Cats 2008-9 may be inferred (in no particular order):
1) Conservative defense as determined by lack of steals, and a focus on defending the paint as compared to perimeter, i.e. blocks and opponents FG%.
2) Correlation between efficient defense (more opponent’s missed shots) and offensive rebound deficit, i.e. more missed shots = more OR opportunities for opponents.
3) Offensive efficiency, i.e. assists per FG and % of scoring from 2 versus 3-point FG’s.
I’m sure there are more insights but those were readily available.
Offensive Rebounds
We seem to be allowing allot of second chance points… We need to body up when the ball is in flight… We give up allot of weak side boards for sure… Porter is making a positive contribution right now even if it does now show in the stats… We need him to play well…

Actually ...
… our OR% allowed is only 30.4. That is good. Not great, not very good, but good.

Yes, and as others have posted; UK shoots such a good % that they don't have to OR opportunities that a team ...
… shooting 40% has.
True
I was talking more about UK having significantly fewer OR’s than their opponents.
Some fans look at that and think that UK is struggling in that particular category.
Just FYI ...
… K-state, West Virginia and Tennessee are all showing up as quality wins on Kenpom. VMI is still a bad loss, and trust me, it will not change into a “sorta bad” loss … well, unless the Keydets get to the Sweet 16. Then, it just might become “sorta bad.”
