Down Go Heels!
Heels lose two in a row! Deacons 92 UNC 89, great game, great players, good execution although Wake did make several errors (fouling a lengthy 3-point attempt) in waning seconds. It does cause me considerable anguish that Wake Forest -- that's Wake Forest, we're talking about -- should have so much more talent than UK. Who would have believed that UNC would start ACC 0-2? Deacons particularly outplayed Heels in backcourt with Jeff Teague outdueling Tywonne Lawson.

I missed the game.
Bummer. Thanks for the report.

Wake Forest
The late Skip Prosser recruited some excellent players to Wake Forest.
But I don’t think WF has that much more talent than UK. They just played a better game (at home) than UK did OTR vs. UNC.

I thought that before the Wake game
I was willing to write off BC as the sort of fluke game you will inevitably get during a great season, but now that the Heels are 0-2, they have a big hole to climb out of to even get a one seed in the NCAA tourney now. The Big East is going to have two teams with resumes worthy of a one seed. Either the winner of the Big XII or the Pac 10 (more likely Oklahoma from the Big XII) will have a one seed. The ACC champ will likely get a one seed and right now Carolina is 2 games behind Duke and Wake Forest.
I think Carolina has been exposed with some major flaws that a solid team can take advantage of.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Teague was outstanding.
I saw most of the game. Teague was great. It’s amazing how many good players the state of Indiana has produced recently, especially the Indianapolis area.
I was really impressed with Wake’s bigs. They played really smart and they played physical with Hansbrough and that seemed to really bother him. Wake has a nice rotation and the 4/5 spots with McFarland, Johnson, Aminu and Woods. That dunk in the 2nd half by Johnson was ridiculous!

Bottom line
UNC loss to WF + UK win over Vandy = UK closer to 2000 wins first and 1 more win between the team with the most NCAA victories and the team with the second most.

Exactly
I’ve been reading over the FanShot OGETART put up about the chase for 2000. (I think that’s who posted it anyways.) There’s a lot of good stuff in there.
I had forgotten when exactly it was that Kentucky passed UNC again for number 1 all time wins. We need this 2000 win thing pretty badly. Its the only real “claim to fame” that we have. UCLA has more titles. UNC has more final fours. We need the wins.
