John Clay on guaranteed money
Excellent piece by Clay on the rising cost of guaranteed victory ... except for MIchigan, that is.

Well ...
… I’d say that’s a win-win.

I agree, which is why I like UK playing WKU.
If UK is going to pay out these large sums of money, I would rather those dollars go to an in-state program, and WKU is my favorite of the group.

Interesting, however,
UK has played Eastern and, now, will play Western, in football. I think the money is being kept in-state . I really don’t think it can be done any better.
Morehead State is a non-scholarship member of the Football Championship Subdivision. And will not be on UK’s schedule. Murray just doesn’t seem interested. I know in basketball, Murray will not play UK unless they get a home and home series
UK has payed the big money and played every in-state DI basketball school. Murray being the exception.
As stated, UK has done very well, keeping the payouts in-state.

True.
It’s unfortunate that Murray is so stubborn. They certainly don’t show a program capable of supporting that sort of arrogant position. But there you go.
As a WKU alum, I am damn pleased the Toppers are playing the Cats. Some people may ask about divided loyalty, but when it comes to sports, I am always a UK fan first. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love my alma mater.
