UK star becomes U.S. star, and Cats couldn't be happier

J.B. Holmes was a huge star at the Ryder Cup this week. I can't begin to tell you how the crowd loved him and Kenny Perry. But Holmes' drives were otherworldly. People are used to thinking that Tiger Woods and John Daly are long, and they are. But Holmes is truly prodigiously, outrageously long off the tee, bombing drives out near 400 yards routinely. I can't even explain to anyone not familiar with golf how huge that is. It puts every par 5 in the world within reach in two, and most par 6's (yes, there are par 6's, just not that many). Valhalla provided a forum for some serious hero stuff for UK's latest golfing prodigy, particularly in singles on the last day. He birdied 3 of the last 4 holes and missed a 5-footer on 15 for a birdie that would have made it 3 in a row and potentially ended the match 3 and 2 on 16 rather than 2 and 1 on 17. But then we would have missed that massive 380 yard drive on 17. Way to go, J.B.
