I wonder, given all the stuff going on, what prompted this.

Not a good omen for this year. I wish Curtis the best.

Omens

I personally think its a good move omens be darned.

Brooks has always impressed me with his handling of team discipline. Hartline is now clearly in command of the team and I think he will flourish more as a leader becuase of Pulley’s absence. IF the two players were as close as made out to be in terms of on the field playmaking I dont think losing Pulley as a player is a huge loss.

I think it fairly clear there was more to the Pulley situation than meets the eye.

Something I've been waiting for.

UKFB has been very hardline in its approach to violations and those who commit them. It was disappointing to me that Pulley had been mentioned as still in the running for the starting nod. Glad to see appropriate action was taken to rectify the situation.

Pulley

is obviously not ready for this type of leadership role at this point in his life.

Whoa!

Aren’t we a little quicky to make a judgement on what we DON”T know? Was he found to be trafficking and the charge was reduced to possession? Has he been testing positive on drug tests and Brooks was just informed?
His father defended him and said he was innocent. Shouldn’t we want for all the infromation to come to light before we push the young man out and slam the door?

I doubt we'll ever know.

When coaches break out the “violation of team rules,” 75% of the time that indicates some sort of substance abuse. I am not assuming that is the case with Pulley, it could be anything. His father insists that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time in the Louisville drug charge, but that is a father speaking.

My feeling is that Brooks gave Pulley the chance to “fess up” to what really happened, and discovered that Pulley’s story didn’t jibe with the facts as he knew them. In combination with the fact that Pulley apparently fully intended to deceive the coaching staff by omission, I suspect that was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

But make no mistake, that is my speculation. I would love to hear the whole story, but I can just about guarantee we never will.

And by the way ...

... Brooks has already pushed him out and slammed the door. Thats what “dismissed from the team” means. I don’t know if it is locked as well, but my guess is that it is.

Brooks would not do this without sufficient information. A positive drug test would surely be enough, along with many other possible things in addition to his attempt to hide his problems from the coaching staff. As I said, we will most likely never know.

Positive drug test...

Didn’t all the team members have physicals yesterday when they checked in? Would that have included blood tests for drugs?

As you said Tru, we will most likely never know the deciding factor, but I trust Coach in his decision on Pulley.

I just hope and pray the drug factor has not infiltrated the team.

They did

They did have physicals but Im not sure about drug testing. One of my family members is in charge of the physical process for UK athletics. I ll ask about the drug testing and get back to you.

Drug testing

So the players dont get drug testing when they report for their physicals. The physicals are performed by student health services which is under the umbrella of the hospital while the drug testing is actually done by the team trainers. I am sure they are all tested but it may be random. thats all I got.

Brooks

Brooks himself said at media days that there was more to they story than everyone previously thought and as he began investigating what happened he uncovered new info that warranted Pulley’s dismissal. Thats quite enough for me to say so long dont let the door hit you in the but on the way out. I hope Pulley gets his act together and succeeds elswhere most importantly off the field but he has been given numerous opportunities by this coaching staff to shape up and just hasnt come to that point that he realizes he needs to grow up yet. He is certainly not ready to lead a team in the SEC.

Well... that's an interesting way to start my afternoon

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

And thinking of things going 'south'

What have we heard on Liggons and his eligibility?

by Paris on Aug 5, 2008 1:44 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I've heard nothing but postive things ...

... and that there will be no official announcement. Many people are now claiming sources that say Liggins and Galloway are fully qualified, but no official word has been given either way

I put this firmly in the “rumor” category since there has been nothing official. Most people now assume there never will be anything official announcing that he is qualified. If he isn’t qualified, something will surely leak out.

So my feeling as of this moment is that Liggins will be playing this year, and Galloway as well.

My assumptions as well

I kind of figured that if something had happened and he wasn’t eligible we would have heard something leak out. I would assume that his scores came back and they’re waiting on the clearinghouse or some such.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

From what has been reported...

I don’t think he should have been kicked off the team. So he possessed pot and had some stupid traffic violations. Those indescretions really don’t bother me at all. Other than the “embarassment” factor the only thing that I question is his judgment. However, he is now gone and who knows maybe he is a bigtime loser. I am guessing there is more to the story. Only time will tell. I don’t think it hurts UK that much unless Hartline gets hurt.

Maybe he will go down the road and try to get on at EKU? They have a good QB but it couldn’t hurt.

For possession and traffic... I agree

But for not telling the coaching staff, I would whole-heartedly endorse removal from the team.

There may be more, but I really don’t need more from my standpoint.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Lied

If it is true that he first lied by omission and then lied agains to Brooks about what really happened you cant trust him to lead you team.
