Scout.com: Who is the top basketball program since 1939?
This is way cool.
I have not had time to examine methodology and reasoning yet, so I am not quite ready to buy into it. But it looks good at first glance.

They finally got it right ...
... and a Kansas fan at that, with the all important assist from a Dookie.
It looks like they used the same formula as ESPN. They just extended the time period to the beginning of the NCAA tournament in ‘39 ( Tru was a mere babe in the woods in ‘39 ).
What some folks forget is that the NIT was the “major” tournament for years. UK played in both season-ending tournaments on more than one occasion.

Heh ...
... I wasn’t even an itch in my daddy’s pants in 1939. :-)
As far as the methodology goes, I suppose sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

Its Good to be King!!!
This is a cool study to compare the all time success of the top progams. This sort of confirms what we UK fans have always believed. It is good for bragging rights but I sure would like to get back to the Top 5, a few final fours and a championship. Our ego has been brusied quite a bit over the last few seasons but I think that UK should be making a move toward the top again over the next few years. If Gillispie keeps barnstorming on the recruiting front and can land a few Top 10-type recruits we may be getting there sooner rather than later. I just really hope that UK does not suffer any devastating injuries, scandals or anything that could set the program back. If not, then maybe I’ll get to change my name to EightRings…..:-))

Excellent Analysis
I’m glad the author (from Kansas) went beyond NC and FF as the only criteria.
If those WERE the criteria used (points earned in first 3 categories), the results were:
UCLA 390, UNC 315, UK 280, Duke 270, Kansas 250, and IU 175 points.
The broader criteria give a much better measure of #1 program.

And 1105 Points In 70 Years For #1 Program
That’s just under 16 points per year. These criteria will provide a good measuring stick for how coaches are progressing. UK (for example) should have 158 points over the next 10 years (2009 through 2018).

Everyone here knows we're the best all-time...
I think we’re just all a little anxious to be the best again right now. Still, a good article and analysis. Makes the chest swell.
Still not a crook!

I Followed UK In 60's - 70's - 80's
And only a few of those years (1978, maybe 1966) was the UK “the best” team. I survived and you will, too.
The 1996-97-98 stretch hadn’t been done at UK in almost 50 years.
