"If I was a betting guy, I'd say that next year's (poll) will have us in the same position, even if we win the national championship," the junior defensive end said. "It's just something you come to expect when you play football at the University of Kentucky."

Historical Perspective
This lack of respect thing really bothered me when the rankings and the opeing line came out. You hear it on talk shows, see it at Media Day and read it in the articles. But remember, the BB team was ranked a lot higher than they deserved at he start of last year. Momentum is a powerful force. Its like with people, we aren’t “comfortable” with someone till we put them in a catagory and label them. I hope this team will use the lack of respect as motivation for what could be a special year. Brooks has based his tenure on the concept of no short cuts but rather build a program with a solid base for the future. This year we should learn what kind of foundation he has built.
Great comment
Momentum is a powerful force, and takes a long time to change.

About Right
I wouldn’t rank UK in the Top 25 either. They lost their QB, 2 best receivers and Woodyard among others. How could UK be expected to be ranked when they are picked to finish 5th again in the SEC East? I don’t care what they use as motivation, they just need to focus on winning game to game and avoid injuries. Does anyone really believe they are a Top 25 team? Go Blue!!
Uh ...
... I don’t think anyone was talking about ranking UK in the top 25, we definitely don’t deserve to be there. What Jarmon was talking about was the reflexive #5 rating Kentucky gets in the SEC East. South Carolina arguably deserves to be there instead of us, but mostly because of Spurrier, the ‘Cats get shot to just above Vanderbilt. It’s a reflex, in my opinion, not really based on reality but on inertia.
Nobody is suggesting we should be ranked above Florida, Georgia or Tennessee. But I think a strong argument exists that we could and should be ranked 4th.

Either way...
I think the projections are right about UK’s season. Would Jarmon’s season be any different if UK was projected ahead of S. Carolina?
Irrelevant ...
... to what both he and I are pointing out. The point is, Kentucky is getting ranked near the bottom without actual regard to the quality of the team. That’s his point. That’s my point. That’s the only point of the article.
Would it make a difference in the season? No, but that has nothing whatever to do with it. If you think that UK is ranked correctly, fine, but judging by last season’s performance and the personnel losses by both teams, my opinion is that it isn’t a reasonable ranking. Both teams had the same record in the SEC, Kentucky unquestionably played the tougher schedule in league and arguably out as well, and lost at USC primarily due to unforced errors in the form of turnovers. Kentucky returns more on the defensive side and as much on the offensive side as USC, yet somehow, we are ranked below them. Vanderbilt beat USC in Columbia last year, for God’s sake.
Makes no sense to me, or to Jarmon.
