Hey
I love his reference to Ky fans playing the Internet games…
“Their ability to vote for themselves when given the opportunity is unmatched, meaning John Wooden is gonna have to come up with some kind of strategy to win this matchup against Adolph Rupp”.
How many times are votes counted?

If they are any good ...
... only one. But such things are easy to fool if you are determined.

I Think Those UCLA Players Would Beat Those UK Players
But some of UK’s best ever are missing (Issel, Nash, K Walker, Mashburn, Prince) becuase they did not win NCAA title(s) at UK.
Wooden never beat Rupp as a coach (early 1960’s).

I actually agree ...
... Just too many great players. But of course, the difference is the eras—virtually all of UCLA’s players are from what we would consider the “modern” era of basketball. Kentucky’s are from the pre-modern days, and therefore look worse on paper.
But even against a more modern team, Kentucky would still probably not fare to well in an actual game. That doesn’t stop me from voting for the upset, though. :-)

Modern Era
Some use 1960. I think basketball changed with Bird and Magic in late 1970’s.

I think of it ...
... as being late 1960’s/early 1970’s.
Basketball in that era was a far different game than in the previous generations. Players were much more athletic and much taller. The trend toward space-eaters began in the later 1970’s.

Alcindor Years, Maybe?
Those UCLA teams of the late 1960’s were the first of those very athletic, taller squads.

Yeah ...
... that’s about as good a place to start as any.

favorite line
my favorite line, mainly because it’s just so true.
On paper, it looks like an easy win for the Bruins because of Lew Alcindor and Bill Walton and all that talent. But National Champions All-Stars Bracket games aren’t played on paper. They’re played on the Internet, and nobody plays on the Internet better than Kentucky fans.

Dang....
I was hoping this would be more like a Chicago election where I could vote as many times as I wanted.

Or closer to home
Some of the elections of Eastern Kentucky. If anybody can fix an election it’s Kentuckians!

Or ...
... if you really want, you can get a bit of software and spoof your IP.
Might get you in trouble with your ISP, though. :-)

Main concern
I figure all the UNC/Duke/Kansas fans that bother to vote will be voting UCLA.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Of course...
We know that, I would just enjoy seeing the differential in vote totals not that great between UK and UCLA.

Compare UK 1960-74 (15 Years) To 1975-89 (15 Years)
The former (60-74) went 10-12 in NCAA games.
The latter (75-89) were 24-11 in NCAA games.
The UK 1974 recruits (Givens, Robey, Lee, Phillips, Hall) added the height and athleticism missing from UK teams of the 1960’s and early 70’s.

Very true.
It took Kentucky a while to catch on to how basketball was being played in the Alcindor era. No surprise, really. Lots of resistance to change at UK in those days. They gradually moved to a more athletic style, not wholesale like Wooded did. You’ve got to give Wooden credit for looking into the future of basketball, and seeing that it was all about tall, athletic players rather than great shooters.

1974 Was Make-Or-Break For Joe Hall
He landed 2 local guys who were absolute Must Gets for UK.
And 2 big men who were highly regarded and sought by many.
His 1972 and 73 recruiting classes were very subpar by UK standards. Only 1 “UK caliber” player (Larry Johnson) in 2 years.
