AAU...

Tell me more about these handlers that can influence a high school athlete’s decision on where they want to play in college.

I know all about the AJ Mayo thing, but it would seem to me that more and more parents would not want their kids involved with these shady AAU people. Am I wrong in my thinking?

Been That Way For 10+ Years Now

Not every kid has parents involved with the college decision.

Unfortunately ...

... you are right. And what I have heard is that Wall’s “people” will have as much say as he does in where he goes, and those people aren’t his parents.

But that’s just the way it is now.

Is this why we have seen...

So many early recruits lately? The kids don’t have to deal with the AAU shady stuff?...tell me FortyYear as you most likely have a vast knowledge on this subject.

No

I don’t think that has anything to do with the early commitments. Very few schools take 8th or 9th grade commitments.

The AAU factor shows up more in junior or senior commitments.

I think ...

... kykat51 is actually more correct than you are.

Coaches could avoid the AAU handlers and clingers-on to a large degree by getting the kids to commit early. It makes it much harder for the street agents and shoe company types from having a bigger influence over the kid than the people who should, i.e. his parents.

Just one more argument for early commitments, in my book.

Mine Is An Opinion

Neither correct or incorrect.

His may be more accurate, I don’t know.

But very few coaches take early commitments.

Wall

On Matt Jones radio show monday he stated that OSU hired his AAU coach and also recruited his best friend (whose name escapes me now).

Still not a crook!

Moses

A kid by the name of Marshall Moses that you should be familiar with. Tubby was recruiting him in his final year here but there were some serious questions about his eligiblity and ethics, I think.

Shoe Company Money

Nike keeps Oregon right in the thick of all the recruiting doesn’t it?

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
