This article in the Courier Journal today makes me wonder what the heck is going on with Matthew Pilgrim. It seems that he is attending classes, but is not living in Wildcat Lodge and the Sports Information Director won't acknowledge that he is a member of Kentucky's team, nor that he is on scholarship.
So what the heck does this mean? I'm not sure, but I do recall reading that although Pilgrim had the required number of hours and academic standing to transfer, his hours did not fit into a degree program at Kentucky, which is one of the reasons why there was such a long delay getting this transfer done.
I would speculate that Pilgrim is taking some classes this summer at his own expense to create the necessary academic situation for him to be offered a scholarship. That would mean that Pilgrim is not on the team yet, and if he fails to obtain the necessary credit hours this summer, he may not be accepted as a transfer student.
But I would also speculate that all parties are relatively certain that he can obtain the necessary hours this summer to start the fall semester on scholarship. I certainly hope so -- if what I am speculating is true and something were to go wrong, this would become a bit of a debacle for UK and Gillispie.
Let's hope all is well come September.
