"Oh, think twice, it's another day for you and me in paradise"
First of all, aloha from Makaha Beach in Hawai'i. I am just about 30 miles northwest of Honolulu in a very quiet area far from the hustle and bustle of the big city. We arrived the day before yesterday and spent all of yesterday getting settled in, buying groceries and other necessities before getting down to the serious business of beaching and golfing and what-not -- all the fun stuff you would want to do in a beautiful place like this.
Speaking of beautiful, they say that pictures are worth 1,000 words, and that is never more the case than in a place like this. So after the jump, I am going to give you a little taste of paradise.
For starters, take a look at my front yard:
My front yard, to the right
My front yard, to the left.
The Big Rock (that's what I call it)
My office for the next 10 days
And now, my back yard:
My back yard, Makaha Valley
Finally, a sunset into A Sea of Blue (pardon the intentional pun):
The beginning of sunset in Makaha
Beauty ...
That's it for now. You can find more at my Flickr page, and I will be updating these regularly.
I'll be posting some actual Wildcat-related stuff soon, and I am back to updating the newsfeed below. Another big thanks to our co-bloggers for taking up the slack while I slack off in paradise.

Your yard
You know, we had problems growing grass for a while too… I know a good guy for sod.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Hehe ...
Yeah, well, we’re kind of partial to it the way it is. :-)

I lived there.
If you look at your backyard view of Makaha Valley and look to the left, that’s the Makaha Valley Towers. That’s where I lived when I worked for the AF over there. I spent a lot of quality time on the very beach in your photographs. Very good memories.

Unacceptable
Who cares about your “vacation” or your “back yard” or your “good time”? We need 150% more talk about either 1) Derrick Jasper leaving, and how we’re screwed, 2) How Jerry Tipton screwed us, 3) How Tubby screwed us, or 4) how much we want Pitino back.
This is a Big Blue Blog, Tru! Come to your senses!

Absolutely Gorgeous!
I have never been to Hawaii, but my husband went there the summer before we met.
When we took a trip to Bermuda in the early 80’s, he told me that it was the closest thing to Hawaii he had ever seen. I will never forget the color of the ocean…like an aquamarine.
Enjoy paradise!!

Here ...
... the ocean is Kentucky blue. Aquamarine near the beach, but once you get to the drop-off, it is like looking at a Rupp Arena crowd.

Beautiful pictures
Thanks for taking the time to post them.
I’m still upset that you didn’t at least attempt to stuff me in one of your suitcases.

Heh ...
... I took so much baggage, it took up half the shuttle bus.
Golf clubs, boogie board and two suitcases plus carry-ons. We’d have had to pay overbaggage on you. :-)

oh, I know
I can totally relate too, where I am is LOVELY this time of year. Ninety-four degrees and oppressively humid—AND my workspace view is of a lovely cream-colored wall…jealous, Tru?

Looks a lot like my backyard in Montana—minus the grizzles and the elk.

Green Flash
If you look carefully just when the sun drops below the ocean in Hawaii, you’ll see a Flash of Green Light for a spilt second. Don’t know why, and I’ve only seen it there in Hawaii.
Ask a local about it.
by FortyYearCatFan on Jun 4, 2008 9:44 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Parlay?
I thought the green flash of light was when pirates crossed over from the land of the dead to the land of the living.
/PotC 3 was kinda painful to get through.

Maybe So
But it is visible for a split second when the sun dips below the oceanic horizon in Hawaii.
by FortyYearCatFan on Jun 4, 2008 2:46 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Green flash isn't limited to Hawai'i
But HI is a great place to watch for it.
by NCT on Jun 5, 2008 8:16 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
So far ...
... I haven’t had a cloudless sunset. You need that for the green flash.
Last time I was in the islands, we stayed a few days at Kailua-Kona on the Big Island, and we watched several sunsets there. Saw the flash. Kind of cool.

I Used To See It From A Fishing Boat Off Kona
We would take a 2 day, overnight trip south from Kona.
It is really neat to see out on the water.

Heh
Yeah, that’s right, Ken.
Without my laptop and an Internet connection, I couldn’t relax. I even had to buy a wireless router so I could sit out on the lanai (balcony) and do what I do (just like I am doing right now).
Damn, those stars are lovely … :-)

Character
What happens if you soak up so much of paradise that you cannot be “mean” and thus “objective” about this SEC community, or how “they” never give us a chance…too much good feelings (sic)) can change a guy…so be careful to take only what you can use while there, brush off before you leave the beach or junk at the airport or decide what is just the right amount to bring home with Big Blue character intact..
