Kentucky Sports Radio: Does Tayshaun belong?
Thomas Beisner at KSR has this very interesting and I think cogent look at the choice of Tayshaun Prince for Team USA.
I think the Sheridan article he references is not very convincing, and is surprisingly hostile to the decision. It is certainly not clear cut obvious that he is wrong, but his case isn't exactly a model of reasoning, even for a sportswriter. In fact, it just looks like another low-quality rant from the bowls of Barad Dûr Bristol.

look at the bigger picture...
The “12th” man selected to the team is not going to be the difference maker for the olympics. The reason the US has lost in the past has been the reliance on big men. The 2004 team could not make a basket from further then 15 feet away. This team will rely on Kobe, Wade, and especially Lebron getting to the hole early and often. I think Michael Redd will be a huge factor with Lebron and Wade driving and either getting “and1’s” or dishing out to Redd for jumpers.
Tayshaun will be a role player not getting a lot of minutes and will probably see more time when the other team has a good wing player to defend(Ginobili, Kirilienko).

just to add...
Popovich is saying that Ginobili should sit out the olympics this year to rest his injury. Sounds fine to me!

OMG, sounds great to me too!
I would be just fine with not seeing Manu during the Olympics. I, of course, realize he is good, but honestly, he bugs the living crap out of me. (My step-dad is an avid Spurs fan, so I get to hear about how fabulous Manu is incessantly…...icky)
All I have to say is, next year, he better watch out, now that the NBA will start fining floppers—I am certain his pocket-book will take quite a hit! : )
Sorry to all the Spurs fans, I wouldn’t normally talk about the NBA on this site, but news is slow these days. ; )
Oh, and I agree with your post above, neither Chandler nor Prince will determine whether we bring home the gold or not. But, it sure is an honor for Tayshaun to make the team!

pass a message to your step dad for me
I know he is good but isn’t it ridiculous that Manu wins the 6th man award? He led the team in minutes played!!! How can the team leader in minutes played get the 6th man award? I think that destroys the 6th man concept.

Not so fast
Did you know that Tay logged the most minutes per game of any player on the US team last summer. That team included Kobe, James, and Melo but not Wade. Coach K likes Tay a lot and while he might be the twelfth man with only 3 men to play the four and five spot on the roster he might just see a lot of minutes.

i did hear that...
however, I heard it was because he was the best defender of course and when they were working with Melo, Kobe, Wade, Lebron, etc… the best defender to help them practice was tayshaun.
You could be right it all depends on how much defense is needed. I know tay can score if he wants but I feel he will only get minutes when he is needed for defense.
