Issues & Questions ...
Hey there,
Lots of changes, obviously ... and while there are notes on the main page about who to contact with issues, it's sort of confusing, I know.
So if you have questions, suggestions, issues that you want addressed, post them here and we can pursue them vigorously...
ISSUE #1:
REMOVE Duke ringtones as ad on KENTUCKY SITE...for the love of jiminy...if htey can't control this, they got problems across the network ... rivalries are what college sports are all about!

I am submitting ...
... a bug report on that, for what it is worth.

SBNation does that!
They advertise Mets ringtones on the Atlanta Braves blog!!! Why? I don’t know?

I know ...
... I put it in a bug report. I consider it a major flaw in the system.
If Louisville Cardinal ringtones start showing up on this blog, a lynch mob will form to hang me and the new platform.

If you look real close you’ll see at the bottom of the ad that it says ‘Ads by Google’. We don’t have anything to do with what ringtone ads get targeted to your blog. Google is falling down on their job, but to be fair it’s probably happening because every once in awhile Duke is discussed on a UK blog and the Mets are discussed on a Braves blog. Either way, I’ll put in a request to Google via our ad partner to block this advertiser.
Also, we’d very much appreciate it if you would keep all comments and feedback like this in our welcome post. You don’t have to do, but it would make our life a little easier to respond to everyone across the network that was migrated to the new platform last night (10 blogs!).

Thanks Trei ...
... There is a bit of a learning curve here, I guess. I submit issues as bug reports, but perhaps I should be noting them here.
Perhaps a bit of guidance on what to put where would be in order?

we try to answer questions and respond to feedback here as much as possible
but if something isn’t behaving properly (and Duke ads on a UK blog might count) don’t hesitate to email the bugreport address just in case

Google ads
A problem everywhere.
A law blog I read was covering the recent resignation/lawsuit of a big Boston firm associate against her previous law firm, alleging she was drugged/raped at a firm-sponsored Christmas party. The google ad next the story was the firm-in-question’s ad with the line, “The best attorneys know how to balance agression with delicate handling.”

Heads up
One other thing – when you move your old profile over, the system defaults to pacific time. If you want that changed, do it from your profile settings.

click the paper icon between your username and "My Blogs" in the topmost grey bar
From there, I think it’s in “Settings”, but if you just click the various tabs in the Dashboard you’ll find it.

General comment on Google Ads
Google data mines the bejabbers out of websites it advertises on. It searches for key words, phrases, anything it can get a toe hold onto for the sake of finding potential ad matches. Unfortunately, it’s extremely diffcult to establish a data mining protocol to separate positive vs. negative associations – especially when you hope to use one protocol for every website you advertise on. (Just hop over to 3rd Saturday in Blogtober to see how difficult it can be: do you place ads for UT or UA on that site or not?)
What does this mean? Simple, as far as you’re concerned: Google picks up on the discussions of all teams in the blog but doesn’t know which ones are good v. bad for advertising purposes. So it places ads for all of them. Variety increases the odds of a response if you can assume that there isn’t an underlying factor that would dissuade a response.

Heh ...
... maybe if I mention Duke, I have to mention Kentucky 50 times to make up for it.

A really nasty thought
would be to have everyone head to the Duke blog and post UK and UNC stuff like crazy. The only problem is that SBNation would take a lot of blame on that even though it’s not their fault. It’d be a really low-class maneuver, but it’s certainly funny to think about.

See above
Hmm, then if I post “Bingham McCutchen” over and over we can all see the ad I referred to above. Hmm.

Hopefully that works.

Sometimes I overthink things just a tad.
But having a bunch of people flood comments of an opposing team would probably be more annoying than the ad it might generate anyhow. And again, it’d just make SBNation and Kentucky look bad, so it’s not worth the while.
But yes, lots of silly ideas like that don’t make it past my skull. I would be a heck of a prankster, but momma done raised me right.
