No new equipment manager?
Just found this addition to Bill Keightley's Wikipedia article (started by yours truly) that states: "The Wildcats not only will not hire a new equipment manager for the 2009 season, but will in fact leave Keightley's chair on the Kentucky bench empty for the season in his honor." This would certainly be a classy move, and one several of us have called for, but the editor provided no reliable source for the edit. Anyone know if this is official? Anyone have a source?

I'm different on this one.
I don’t like sentimental gimmicks like leaving seats open and stuff. The man’s life was spent honoring UK and he deserves something noteworthy, I’m just not sure this is it.

What's left?
His name is in the Rafters.
He is in the Wildcats HOF.
His name is on part of the building they practice in.
What sort of noteworthy thing do you propose that is greater than those? I think the open seat is a very appropriate honor him. I mean, really, what can be done that is greater that what has already been bestowed? Personally, I think the highest honor that they can give is hanging your name in the rafters. If they hadn’t done that already it would be a nobrainer…but they have and I for one am glad that they did do that while he was still alive.

Not fair
Plus, it wouldn’t be fair to whoever sat in that seat. I get the feeling we’d never know the guy (or gal)’s actual name. They’d forever be known as “that guy (or gal) who sits in Mr. Wildcat’s chair.”

I think ...
... that’s right, unless they eliminate the position. They won’t. But I don’t think the rules require that it be filled immediately.
