NIT title or NCAA First Round Loss

I work in Columbus, OH...the heart of Buckeye country (I accept your condolences in advance) and while people aren't buzzing like last year they are still pretty pumped to be in the NIT championship game.

As a UK fan I can't understand it.  All I hoped and prayed for in December was to somehow make the NCAA tourny.  I didn't care what round we made it to, just get in.

These guys are talking about the NIT like its a big deal, but I keep telling them all it proves is that you are the 67th best team in the country...the only thing you won is the right to tell the selection committee "Hey, You should have picked us instead of MD-Baltimore Co.!"

So what do yo think?  Would you rather win the NIT or lose in the NCAA first round?

I'll hang up and listen.

First round loss.
I have thought about this also.  A first round loss or win the NIT and finish the season on a win?

Just me, but I will still take a first round NCAA loss--especially this year when it looked like that was NEVER going to happen.

It's ...
a tough question.  Lose in the biggest tournament in the land or win a lower-tier tournament -- which is better?

To me, the answer boils down to this fact:  Nobody turns down the NCAA tournament bid because they think they have a better chance of winning the NIT.

That pretty much says it all to me.

Thats...
A very good way to put it.

The ONLY point for NIT
First - I pick NCAA any day. Period. this time next year, this year's early bump will be faded but making it as you pointed out will be strong.

However, I could not help while watching T-Ford hand it to Pulathis or Culatis or whatever the kids name is (;-) that the young gators have had many more weeks of practice, playing and growing together. As have all of the other teams in the NIT.

Leaving pride out, could Billy G have used this same time to continue building our young cats?

Rich Brooks states constantly that post season play means more to him in the extra practice and face time than the winning. Doing it every year will build a team faster than a low tier or young team.

Jus put it out here for conversation. I still say NCAA hands down.

NCAA
UK has only appeared in 2 NIT since 1950.

1976 and 1979. And only then because NCAA was not an option.
