We're lucky to get a bowl...
First – there are way too many bowls (off-topic, I know). If a 6-6 team can get invited to a post-New Year’s bowl, then they probably need to reduce the number of bowls. I’m only 24, but in the 10 or so years I’ve paid close attention to college football, teams got bowl bids only if they were DESERVING. Since bowls are “special,” it seems appropriate that a bowl’s participants must possess a winning record to be invited. Ultimately, I don’t think UK deserves a bowl based on the latter part of the season’s on-field performance (and I’d say the same thing for a plethora of other teams…i.e. Notre Dame, etc.).
That said, since our team is so young (esp. on offense), I am grateful that we’ll get these extra few weeks of practice. This will be invaluable and should absolutely make a difference next year.
So, it would be on January 2nd versus a C-USA opponent – probably another mediocre .500 team (Memphis or Southern Miss) or a 7-5 team (Houston).

I can find ...
… little to disagree with in that comment. :-)

I agree
But I think money trumps the experience factor when it comes to the university decision to accept the bid.
It would definitely be something though if we managed to win, giving us three winning seasons in a row with three bowl wins.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Most of the articles I've been reading
seem to indicate that, if UK accepted the Liberty Bowl bid, they would face whoever loses the C-12 matchup between East Carolina and Tulsa. Either of these teams offer UK an extremely slim chance of notching a win. Both were in and out of the Top 25 all season.
East Carolina – defeated both Virginia Tech and WVU (did lose to UVA and S. Miss)
Tulsa – only lost 2 (one was against gasp Arkansas)
We can only hope for Memphis, S. Miss, or Houston, although all of them (esp. S. Miss, in terms of match-up) would give UK a serious challenge.

I am not sure we could win this one
But the team deserves it with losing so many valuable players early and so many injuries in the season. Anyway, I am glad they are going and understand Coach’s decision for this bowl. The seniors deserve a different venue. Go Cats!

East Carolina
I think UK vs ECU might be a good game. Both teams are not the same teams as they started with due to some key injuries, but have found ways to come up with wins. Tulsa has a super offense that UK would struggle with in my opinion. ECU would be a better match up. I think most people expected UK would end up some where between 5-7 and 7-5 at the start of the season and here we are at 6-6 although it killed me to watch our chance to beat UT slip away. I’m proud of our guys for their hard work and hope for a finish on a positive note. GO CATS!

It will be ECU...

And I agree re: ECU being a better matchup for us.
As for a prediction, I would give UK the edge because Memphis is closer and we would probably travel better there. It’s kind of too close to call.
I’m glad we’ll get to see seniors like McClinton, Dixon, Masthay, G. Williams, etc. one last time. Wish we could’ve seen Dicky.
