Big East/SEC Challenge
While I think the Big East/SEC Challenge is largely garbage, the SEC got off to a good start with Vanderbilt routing South Florida and Tennessee beating Marquette pretty solidly last night. If Mississippi State can handle Cincinnati and Ole Miss/Huertas can upset Louisville, the SEC will look a bit better all of a sudden.
With the SEC being so down this year, a few good wins like these go along away. I actually think Mississippi has a good shot at Louisville, despite some bad losses (Utah and New Mexico State, notably). Go SEC.

SEC
I always like to see the SEC do well, but……….
It’s so hard to pull for UT or UF under any circumstances………..I know that the better the rest of the teams do OOC, the better the conference looks, the more respect it gets in the NCAA’s, etc. But it still hurts.

TOTALLY AGREE
There are VERY FEW situations in which I can ever make myself pull for Tennessee or Florida.

UT and UF
Think of it this way if it helps. In OOC play pulling for UT and UF IS pulling for the Cats.
The better they look in OOC the better we will look in conference when we beat them. We need SEC teams to have a better RPI so we can beat them and help our RP,I which will give us a better selection in March.

Cincy Will (Should) Beat Miss St
I hope Ole Miss beats Louisville because of the Rebel coach (AK is a friend of a friend).

Saw the Xavier/Cincy game.....
If Cincy plays the way they did during their comeback in that game, they should have no problem with MSU. Xavier is a very good team again this year, and the BearCats just didn’t have enough gas left in the tank to pull it off. Consistent play from frosh Yancy Gates inside will certainly help.
Mick Cronin is another good young coach, and is making progress. We sure liked what he did for my Murray St. Racers while he was at my alma mater.

Cronin
We’ve had some pretty good coaches come through MSU over the years.
We had Gottfried on the hardwood and Houston Nutt on the gridiron when I was there.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

And well he should not.
This is a criminal matter, even if it is a misdemeanor, and he should not speak to anyone about it other than an attorney.

UK seems like they can’t and that is beat Marquette….sarcasm

Heh.
Yeah, that’s true. Of course, Marquette had lots of trouble with UT’s big people, and ours are better by quite a bit, this year. I think we could have handled them had Patterson been available.

And then you make ALL good points…??? lol
I myself like the idea and it will be interesting to see how the SEC fairs over time…
We all know that the ACC has, for the most part, dominated the ACC-Big Ten challenge…

Okay
That’s fair. I should have clarified that what I meant was that other than Tennessee, they sort of scraped the bottom of the down SEC barrel to put this together. Maybe Vandy is better than their terrible losses so far this year show (which I comment on in Tru’s TN scouting report), but why no Florida, LSU, or UK in this challenge?
Okay. On more reflection, I guess there is balance. Tennessee = Louisville, Vandy = Marquette, Ole Miss = Cincinnati, and Mississippi State = South Florida. Maybe these should have been the matchups. . .

Why no UK in SEC/Big East challenge?
We we do have an upcoming game with a certain prominent member of the Big East in a couple weeks anyways…

UK
Only four SEC teams and four big east teams play in the challenge. UK and UF are slated to play in it next season.

Gillispie on the SEC/Big East challenge
In the Andy Katz article I just linked as a fanshot, Gillispie says he’d like to see the challenge move to either a one venue format (like Atlanta or NYC) or go to the home courts. He also said he’d like to see 12 games in it with the four Big East schools left out rotating years in and out.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Why not rotate between NY and ATL?
Should make most folks happy.

Not bad
That wouldnt be a bad idea but I think the main problem with the neutral site is getting fans to travel to them. While UK would draw a large number of fans anywhere Im not sure other teams could. I think that it the reasoning to moving it on to campuses.

Aren't we forgetting the best Sec W over Big (L)east?
U of K over WVU in going away fashion.
Seriously though, the Big East is the best conf. in basketball They could easily have 10 tournament teams.

Let's not be unrealistic.
The SEC is way down this year, and the Big East is way up. That’s just the reality of the situation.

Wow.
I wonder what that was all about?
I like Andy Kennedy. I have a hard time figuring out what could provoke him to such an act. Sounds like something that happens after a few too many adult beverages.

It seems he and his crew were booted from a bar. A cab took them somewhere else to pick up other people, but the cabbie wouldn’t let everyone squeeze in. AK got angry.

Not True

Kennedy
Gary Parrish recounts the Ole Miss side of the story and it’s completely different. The truth might be somewhere in the middle BUT it does make the situation seem much less damaging to Kennedy.

Smart of Ole Miss staff to stay together
Good thing the staff stayed together so there were witnesses to the shenanigans. The Ole Miss staff’s side of the story is starting to sound more plausible. If it turns out to have been made up by the cabbie, I hope Kennedy wins the defamation suit. I hate when people do that kind of thing.

I am somewhat
curious why he was out at bars at 1am boozing it up the night before a game. Yes, he is an adult, a grown man, etc. I drink the excess on occasion as well, and he’s welcome to shut the bars down whenever he wants, but I typically don’t drink to excess at bars at 1am the night before work, however. Certainly makes me a bit slow witted the next day.

Question
I would think that if someone were “punched in the face with a closed fist” that there would be some sort of physical evidence on the person that was punched – especially if the police were called in such a short time after the incident. I mean I dont know, I would just think that if a grown man punches someone in the FACE with a closed fist, its gonna leave a mark of some sort.
by kentuckygirl0724 on Dec 19, 2008 11:28 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
AK Is 6-7 And A Big Man
I highly doubt he touched the cab driver, much less punched him.
by FortyYearCatFan on Dec 19, 2008 12:13 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That's what I'm saying
It seems to me it would be fairly obvious whether or not he punched the cab driver in the face or not.

Assualt
According to the Parrish article Kennedy was arrested for assualting the driver.
Im an EMT and here in Kentucky Assualt is a threat of physical force. If he had punched the driver he would have been taken in for assualt and battery.

It is hard to tell what really happened but this kind of press is not good even if he is exonerated. Hopefully things will turn out fine for Coach Kennedy.

I don’t know the guy but this really struck me as very bad. Maybe he needs a class in anger control management. It’s one thing for this type of thing to happen with a player on the team, much less the coach. Geez!

Alleged Incident
There are multiple eyewitnesses to what actually happened. Facts will trump the initial reports.
by FortyYearCatFan on Dec 19, 2008 11:01 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Well... if you want to nit-pick
The incident isn’t alleged… something happened. What is alleged is the assault.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
by chirop1 on Dec 19, 2008 1:45 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The word "alleged" has almost ZERO meaning.
A guy caught actually stabbing another dude is the “alleged” “suspect” until he gets carted out of court.
Changing how you think will change what you think.
by wilson452 on Dec 19, 2008 2:57 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Well ...
… the allegations are the charge. He did something, but he was alleged to have committed a crime. That may not be so. He could have hit the guy in self defense or after being struck. That would change the circumstances considerably, don’t you think?
The act, whatever it was, may or may not be a crime. That’s why we use “alleged” to preface a non-adjudicated criminal complaint. It doesn’t become a “fact” until a jury, judge or plea says so.
