Dale Brown teaching life lessons, hoops
A fantastic update on former UK standout Dale Brown, who is on his way back up after bottoming out.
Sounds like Mr. Brown has lofty ambitions, but his heart in the right place at last.

Great Read, Liked This Part The Best
“Rick Pitino and Tubby, those guys are great guys…,” Brown said.
Wished more UK fans felt that way.

Sorry, don't see it.
Maybe it’s because I no longer live in Lexington, but I doubt there are many (any?) UK fans who don’t think Pitino or Tubby are “great guys.” Yes, they may disagree with their choice of employer or their style of play, etc., but I don’t think anyone dislikes them personally (save for the few idiots who think hating someone is their purpose in life).
I just don’t think this is fair to put on UK fans.

There Aren't Many With Kind Words About Both
There are some with kind words about one or the other, but rarely both.
The late Mr. Keightley was one who would agree with Dale Brown.

One of the many things I love about Keightley
He would never speak badly about any coach or player or anyone associated with UK basketball.
He had a distinct personality with every coach that went through the program and the players too. He loved them all! We lost a great guy people and I don’t personally think I will ever see another one like him. He was too special in so many ways!

Perception....
Im sure people who KNOW Tubby and Rick think they are great guys. I dont know either of them although i did get to talk to Tubby once on the call in show. Id say Tubby seems to be a very nice man. As for Ricky, when he lied about leaving UK i took that personal. I dont care if he used coach speak like all the rest, i think he is a liar, but thats my perception(spelling?). I also “met” Clem Haskins in a local resturant and talked to him, again to me, he seemed like a very nice man.

The main subject of the story is Dale Brown
I think it is an excellent article about his days at UK, his pitfalls in life, his rising above those problems and finally getting to be in a position he loves…teaching and coaching kids in the basketball college world. I wish him the best!

I knew Brown was in coaching because of his stint at Pikeville, but I didn't know of his personal struggles.
If he can coach, he will rise through the ranks. Sean Woods was selling radio time in Lexington 7 or 8 years ago, and he’s already coaching a D-I school.
I wish Brown all the luck in the world. Perhaps he will soon bring his team into Rupp.

Donald Brown Is His Given Name
He was given the nickname “Dale” because of the proximity of Mississippi to LSU and the other Dale Brown.

Never knew that!
That’s funny! I always just thought it was a coincidence. That’s much better. 8’)

That's terrific - good for Dale!
I agree with Ken, UK should schedule Dillard within the next two years. Heck, with their style of play they could be a good tuneup for faster playing teams in the NCAA.

A very good read.
I love stories of people who self-destruct, and then pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

Yeah, me too.
What they did was abominable. I’ve never heard of such a thing in my life, and hope I never do again.

Thanks, JL
I love to hear what’s going on with former players, and its great to know Brown bounced back from this tragedy. Brown is one of the first UK players I remember watching as a kid. Since I was pretty young, I don’t remember clearly, but didn’t he set a UK record once by going 7-for-7 from three in one game?

Browns bombs
His three best 3-piont shooting games: vs UT (5-9) in Jan. ’93 — Ariz. St. (6-9) in Dec. ’94 — Ga., (4-4) in Feb. ’94.
Not 7-7, but still pretty good. I still say if he had not gotten hurt vs. Michigan in the FF, that UK would have won that game.
