Avery Debuts for Crespi
Much-discussed Kentucky recruit Michael Avery, just entering his freshman year of high school, had a fine debut for his new school, Crespi, scoring 17 in the 61-47 victory.
Avery committed to Billy Gillispie's Kentucky program after his eighth-grade year.

Ah ...
… so maybe Gillispie isn’t quite as insane as all his detractors say when it comes to Avery.
Just maybe he saw something that really IS there.

Certainly Talented Enough
But it’s a long way from 8th grade to college freshman.
I think at least some of the criticism was for offering a scholarship to a young player after seeing one practice (workout).
That’s how UK landed Carlos Toomer in 1989. Pitino offered him a scholarship after watching him at a practice.

Did he move?
I thought he was in Thousand Oaks?
Beautiful country out there.

Lake Sherwood In 2008
Don’t know about 1000 Oaks (which BTW produced a star UCLA basketball player named Gavin Smith in mid 1970’s).

It's hard for me
to actually “absorb” the idea that Michael Avery will one day wear a UK uniform, considering that when he does, I’ll be out of law school and 2 years from being 30. That seems like AGES from today.

I am hoping that I inherited...
The second generation of my grandmothers…98 my Mom’s side and Dad’s side 101 and still alive. But both my parents died relatively young…Dad 67 and Mom 71. Life goes on with the kids and grands and my extended family of brothers, sisters, and a multitude of cousins.

My granny ...
… lived until 98. But my grandfather died in his 60’s of a heart attack.
What will happen to me? Who knows? :-)

It'll go by in a flash, mrmonday.
Just wait till you have grandkids. The mind still says “yes”, but the body says, “hold on a minute.”

Exactly as far as think before you act for seniors...
That reminded me of a youtube thing I saw the other day with all these seniors attempting feats they would have done 40 years earlier. It made me think of my Dad who had recovered from lung cancer surgery and then decided he wanted to play basketball again with the sons and grandsons. Well…he may have enjoyed his few minutes of play, but he went down with a broken hip. He was a warrior through it all and still came back and played golf with his daughters the next year after undergoing surgery for kidney cancer.
