The Kentucky job had opened following the firing of Tubby Smith earlier that March. Donovan, who began his coaching career as a Kentucky assistant under Rick Pitino, was considered the first person that Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart would call about the job. [Emphasis mine]

AAAARRRGGGHHH!
This writer is a moron. If I lived anywhere near him, he would be in great jeopardy of being gelded by me with a dull, rusty hacksaw. The author of this piece should quit his job now -- he is obviously taking money under the false pretense of being qualified to cover sports.

Revisionist history
I guarantee that in 20 years, it will be widely remembered that Kentucky fired Tubby.
This is just an early indication of such.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Nobody Fired Anybody
Even Eddie Sutton wasn’t fired. He agreed to resign.
Tubby made a job change. His new employer loves him. His former employer is thrilled with his replacement. Happens all the time in the business world.
