Over-ranked. Over-hyped.

Is anyone else sick and tired of seeing these no bodies ranked in the top 25? BYU and their 16 game win streak...excuse me, their former 16 game win streak. who have they played so far this year? and last year?? They have barely even played ranked teams and when they did, it was ugly. TCU? A team that has played absolutly nobody and got into the rankings by defeating....who? They got thumped by Oklahoma this year and UCLA last year, the only ranked teams they have faced in the last 2 regualr seasons. Oh yeah..and BYU, the same BYU team that has never played anyone. What about South Florida? They play in the Big east...that alone is enough to have them not be even eligible for a ranking. I am so sick and tired of seeing SEC teams passed up because once we start playing each other, one team has to lose. This knocks all of us out of the national title race, so teams like Penn state and oklahoma state and texas tech can get a chance. Its embaressing. The Big 12 is the only other conference I can give a nod to, as they have taletned teams like oklahoma dn texas that could give the likes of LSU, bama dn florida a run. It really gets me and ESPN jumps ALL over the bandwagon of undefeated nobodies. Remember Hawaii last year? They rose their "undefeated" train right into a merciless Georgia team. boise State had the same problem 2 years ago. Once they step into a real football world, they get crushed. I don't understand. Does anyone else share this view?

Boise State

I thought Boise State went undefeated in 2006 and beat Oklahoma in their bowl game. I’m glad to see some of the “mid majors” getting ranked for a change. It wasn’t like that a few years ago. Generally I think the lower placed in the bigger conferences are over-rated, but I don’t think that’s the case in the SEC this year. Vandy should be up there but they need to keep winning games. Michigan State, VaTech, and Vandy are all close but with two losses it can be argued either way. Vandy has been consistant and looked solid in their losses so I think they deserve to be up there. The others have looked like crap in there losses. Are teams entitled to a bad day? BYU definitely had a bad day on the road at TCU. Utah beat Michigan which is not the Michigan of old, but still a quality win. In my opinion the top four in the Mountain West this year (TCU, Utah, BYU, Air Force) would hold their own in the ACC or Big East. WE NEED A PLAYOFF like FCS.

The Big 12

is 7-8 against non conference BCS teams. At least that is what I heard on ESPN. I will say that I think South Florida is not over rated. They were pretty banged up in their only loss. I will agree that they would struggle to 9 wins in the SEC though.

Regardless

There are a lot of teams that are top 20, 15, even top 10 that do not deserve to be there. I was not impressed by oklahoma states win over missouri, a team that is a perfect examlpe of ESPN’s love. Chase Daniels is one of the “tyler hansbourghs” of football. because of this, missouri rose to the top, only to be absolutly crushed later. i just feel like the BCS is not an accuarte representation of college football, and it has been that way since its beginning. If it was to show the teams based on their records, then yes its flawless. But it isnt. The BCS rankings are supposed to show the best of the best, and when SEC teams play each other, you can almost gaurentee a good game (florida LSu aside), or at least a wild finish. It is clear without a doubt that SEC is the premere football league in the nation, and the only thing that can acuuartly represent it thusly is the aforementioned play off system. That way, teams like ohio state can’t just ride their pathetic schedual into a national championship every year (where they always have and will continue to be dominated by superior SEC teams)
