Y Waste A Year Of Eligibility?

Patterson will get 30+ minutes at his spot. Stevenson or Harrellson will get 20+ minutes each. Little or no PT for Pilgrim this season.

That's nuts, Forty.

If Pilgrim doesn’t have to serve a year in residence, he gets an extra year of eligibility. As it stands, he will be a senior next year, eligibility-wise.

Not So

He played 2 years at Hampton.

He will get 2 years at UK – either 2010 and 2011, or 2009 and 2010.

He won’t get 3 years, either way. He completed 2 full seasons at Hampton.

Eh ...

… that’s right, for some reason I thought the year in residence counted against eligibility. It does, of course, but you have 10 semesters to play eight, so he would get two more years.

But I still think it would be a good thing, although I don’t expect it to happen. I strongly disagree that Pilgrim would sit — more likely Harrellson would sit. Pilgrim is a much stronger, more athletic player and a better rebounder. He is a little shorter and smaller, but Harrellson is not as talented on his best day as Pilgrim is.

Plus ...

… From what I have seen, Pilgrim has enough ball skills to play some three.

3 Spot

Harris and Miller get 35+ minutes there, maybe 40.

Pilgrim is 4 or 5, cannot play 3 in SEC.

I believe ...

… you are wrong about that. I have seen his game, and he is most definitely capable of playing some 3.

Pilgrim

I dont see Pilgrim playing much three. He has the handle but I dont think he’s quick enough.
If he did though we would have a huge front line. IF Pilgrim plays I think he takes Stewarts minutes and a little of Harrelson and Stevenson’s but i still expect to see a lot of both.

Pilgrim Not Able To Play 3 Vs. SEC Opponents (IMO)

Patterson 30+ minutes, Harrellson and Stevenson split 40 minutes. That leaves 5 or 10 minutes for Stewart or Pilgrim. Harris and Miller split 40 minutes at 3 spot.

Considering

+Injuries
+Foul Trouble
+The propensity for Gillispie’s players to leave the team
+The unverified quality of Harrellson, Miller and the dubious talent of Stewart
+Gillispie’s tendency for playing unorthodox line-ups

I can’t see why having Pilgrim eligible would be a bad thing. I’ve never heard such stringent opposition for adding depth to the team. Would we be opposed to adding Orton to this year’s squad?

Two months (!). Two weeks. Two pencils.

It Wastes A Year

Pilgrim is (reportedly) a high caliber post player. Why have him play 5 or 10 minutes a game?

Miller > Pilgrim. Harrellson = Pilgrim. Stewart, who knows? He rarely plays. A friend of mine (who coaches in Big 12 and recruited several of his HS teammates) says Stewart is a good prospect.

Prospect

Prospect is the key word. I think Stewart’s upside is undeniable but will he develop? That is the key question.

Pilgrim being able to play this year wouldnt be bad at all but I think we could use him more next season alongside Orton IF Patterson leaves early.

He Won't Develop Sitting On The Bench

When he played last season, he played pretty well.

I look for him to transfer at semester break if he is sitting (much) this season.

Played well

He obviously didnt play well enough to merit more time. If he was good enough to be in the rotation he would be.

Stewart's Frosh Stats Vis-A-Vis Stevenson

http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/statistics/Players/Stewart_A._J.gbg.html

compared to Stevenson as a frosh. Actually NO comparison at all.

http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/statistics/Players/Stevenson_Perry.html

Stevenson played behind Morris and Perry or Thomas – all vets – as a frosh.

Stewart had no such vets ahead of him in the rotation. He played well early in the season, then sat the rest of the way.

Complaint

Your making the same complaint about stewart and Coach G that many other CAT fans were making about Stevenson and Tubby.

BS

Stevenson played more games and more minutes than Stewart as a frosh despite playing behind Morris, Perry, and Thomas.

Minutes

I didnt say anything about their numbers or stats. I said your complaint is similar to many complaints I heard about Stevenson the last year Tubby was here. Dont come with numbers that have nothing to do with my argument. Im not addressing the reasoning for your complaint just the complaint itself. I dont get your fascination with Stewart. He definitely has the athleticism but I dont know if he has the drive to be a successful player at this level. I think the quantity of his minutes lies solely in how hard he wants to work and to this point he hasnt worked hard enough. Any contribution he could make would be welcome and I hope he stays but I dont see him as a game changer only a role player.

Stevenson

Played every game but 1 as frosh. He played steady minutes. He had a steady role on the 2007 team.

Stewart played good minutes in OOC games then almost nothing in SEC and postseason games.

He’s a good player. I know coaches who scouted and recruited him.
