NFL in "Trevor" Lindley's Future?

Here's the first of many "Top College Prospects" lists for the 2009 NFL Draft from Pete Prisco.  While I'm ecstatic that Lindley is included (look at the "Others who could move into the top 32" list at the bottom), I'm not so thrilled that Prisco refers to him as "Trevor."

I know its just speculation and Prisco is no scout, but it's always exciting to see a UK football player mentioned on a list that also includes guys like Matt Stafford, George Selvie, Knowshon Moreno, etc.  Additionally, lists like this, however speculative, put guys who deserve some attention (like Lindley) "under the radar" for people who may not pay attention to outstanding players on a team that isn't a perennial BCS contender.

The piece also brings up the important - but often overlooked - imminence of a "looming rookie salary scale" that will scare underclassmen into the draft this year.

I hope ...

… Lindley chooses to stay another year. I think he could be a first-rounder.

But he looks good enough to play on Sunday, in my opinion — which admittedly, is not the most reliable when it comes to the NFL, a sport I rarely pay attention to. :-)

You're definitely ...

… right. He should (and probably will) stay another year, especially considering the overall youth and perpetually burgeoning strength of this defense. If he left, he would probably be picked in the later rounds and initially be relegated to special teams and a role as extra DB in nickel and dime situations. Frequently, this is a role that’s hard to move out of for younger guys in the NFL.

If he stays around for another year, and the defense continues to solidify its reputation as one of the SEC’s (and thus the nation’s) elite, he could easily come out in the late first/early second round of the 2010 NFL draft and move into a starting job, or at least trailing right behind a reliable veteran on the DC (see: Mike Jenkins [USF], Antoine Cason [Arizona] and Brandon Flowers [Va. Tech] from 2008; Aaron Ross [Texas], Eric Weddle [Utah] and Eric Wright [UNLV] from 2007).

Also – thanks for adding this “FANPOST” option. I had to tell all my friends back in Lexington that I was the proud poster of ASOB’s most recent FanPost.

2009 DBs

Looking at the crop of DBs that will enter the 2009 Draft, it is thin. Lindley is undoubtedly at the top of the bunch. He’s got first-round talent, but stranger things have happened. He should stay.
