Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

No real surprise, but disappointing nonetheless. I will miss him a lot, and the team will miss him much more.

WELL POOP!

Who knows, sometimes young timid guys stand behind large shadows.

His words about practice this week when he said if he wasn’t out there he would be on the sidelines helping the young guys and making them do the right things.

This may be a wake up call to our all Frosh receiving corp. There is no vet like DL to rely on to get the catch we need to keep a drive going.

I am going to miss him.

So, chances of him making a roster in the NFL? Size says slim but stranger things have happened.

Changing how you think will change what you think.

Damn...

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

I really that this...

Dicky was the heart of this team. I hope he can recuperate from his surgery and be on the sidelines during practices and games to booster these young WR’s. The team needs him in that respect even if he can’t be in the game.

Thanks for all your heart and crazy sense of humor Dicky. We all love you!

Another reason to go to Cobb at QB

By most accounts, Lyons was having a so-so year. Part of this is inability to get him the ball. However, the greater part, is that Lyons, as Kentucky’s best receiver, was opposed by the defense’s best cornerback.

Who now is UK’s most explosive WR? I believe it is Randall Cobb. The rest of WR seem, in my mind to be of like talent. If Cobb faces the opponents top DB every game he will neutralized. Defenses in the SEC are too good and too fast. They can and they will contain one player per team, especially if your offense isn’t that good.

Why not put you “A” WR (Cobb) at QB and let the defense choose between guarding WR B-1, B-2, or B-3 with their all-star defender. At least that way, your best playmaker gets the ball in his hands each play. Also, since the WR corps is so depleted, UK should consider running more option.

That’s my (uninformed?) take anyways.

Two months (!). Two weeks. Two pencils.

Cobb not comfortable at QB.

It’s unfortunate, but our WRs are as bad as our QBs. Cobb is a more valuable receiver than QB right now, especially if he is uncomfortable taking snaps. As a freshman it is much easier to assimilate to SEC play at the WR position than QB.

Still not a crook!

I think ...

… that’s a pretty good take.

But Brooks seems to have made up his mind. He even suggested Hartline’s poor throws were caused by a grip change that was made to reduce the possibility of him dropping the football like he did against Alabama.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Brooks doesn’t care what the fans think, nor should he. He has forgotten more about college football in the last 15 seconds than I have ever known. But I still think Cobb needs to see some significant time at QB, comfortable or not.

Not buying it

Your logic is flawed or you dont know much about football man.
Cobb’s not the answer at QB. I wish he was but he’s not.

Fine.

My logic may be flawed and I may not know much about football. Kentucky’s passing gaming is awful. You don’t have to take my word for it though. As reported by Eric Crawford, Kentucky is 107th in passing efficiency. That’s out of 119. That’s BEFORE Kentucky’s best WR was injured. That’s BEFORE Kentucky played the toughest part of their SEC schedule.

If I could see that UK’s offense has shown any signs of improvement, I would ardently stick behind Hartline. But they have not.

Even Joker Phillips intimidated a switch to Cobb in his post-game comments:

“He’s a guy that’s a playmaker. He’s got to get his hands on the ball. We’re searching for guys that can make plays. We’re not making them right now.”

I see no better ways to get the ball in his hands at every snap. Some will say in he is not ready to be a QB; he is too inexperienced. Consider, however, that Cobb has thrown twice as many passes to date as Hartline had entering this season. If UK makes the switch, their offense can’t worse.

Two months (!). Two weeks. Two pencils.

IT CAN BE

Im not sold on Hartline at all and totally agree with you about the offense but at this point Cobb would have no one to throw to if he was playing QB. Hartline at QB however gets to throw to Cobb.
I can guarantee you Hartline stays at QB and Cobb remains at receiver.

Must have been before...

the results of the MRI. Dicky will have to wait a few weeks even before surgery due to the swelling.

Good Luck Lyons

I hope the best for him. I also hope that Rich Brooks sends film to the SEC officiating office because that was an obvious horse collar tackle. This is exactly why that rule was adopted. Of course, it won’t help Lyons but UK should have had the ball first and goal inside the 5. Instead UK had a FG blocked for a TD which tied the score at 7.
