Some Useless Jersey Info

This wasn't warranting a full post, so I thought I'd spice up the diaries with a little found info, courtesy of TCP message boards.

After some negotiation and machination, the players have worked out tentative jersey changes for the upcoming season.

No. 1: Alex Legion
No. 3: Ramel Bradley
No. 5: Derrick Jasper
No. 13: Michael Porter (was #1)
No. 15: A.J. Stewart
No. 21: Perry Stevenson
No. 23: Jodie Meeks (was #20)
No. 25: Mike Williams
No. 30: Dwight Perry (no word on whether he earned a name)
No. 32: Joe Crawford
No. 34: Ramon Harris (was #22)
No. 42: Mark Coury
No. 43: Jared Carter
No. 54: Patrick Patterson

For some historical perspective, here are some notables with each of those numbers ... (courtesy of Jon Scott, of course ... )

No. 1: Cliff Hawkins
No. 3: Rex Chapman/Chris Harrison
No. 5: Wes Cravens (not the horror guy)/Nate Knight (the horrible guy)
No. 13: Todd Bearup!
No. 15: Alex Groza
No. 21: Terry and Cameron Mills
No. 23: Eric Manuel/Junior Braddy
No. 25: Anthony Epps (who I think Mike Williams ate)
No. 30: Irving Thomas
No. 32: Richie Farmer/Jared Prickett
No. 34: Chuck Verderber/That Sky Walker guy
No. 42: Vincent Del Negro (Yes, father of THE Vinny Del Negro)
No. 43: Jason Lathrem
No. 54: Melvin Turpin

Let's hope that Patterson doesn't visit Arby's as much as his numeralsake, The Dinner Bell.

retired numbers
off the site you linked, i noticed that some of those numbers are retired (15, 32, 34 were the first ones i saw...there may be more). also some are retired multiple times.

i was going to assume the reason players can still wear these numbers is because there's a lack of non-retired numbers aailable, but that actuially doesn't seem to be the case.

anybody happen to know why these numbers can be worn now?

on a totally unrelated note, in the late 30s, there was a player on UK named Elmo Head. I think he would make the UK "Best Name" team.

Interestingly enough ...
Elmo's son was an assistant coach at my high school back in the 1970's.

Retired Jersey's
This may have already been addressed but UK doesnt retire numbers they retire jerseys so players can re use numbers. I think its pretty cool because the lockers players use in the practice center list all the other players that ever wore the same number in each players locker. I think that is a great reminder of the history that you are a part of as a UK player.
