UK Baseball: Better Luck Next Year

Well, the Bat Cats did their part yesterday to make the SEC tournament, but unfortunately, the Gators didn't.  Kentucky had to beat Auburn and Florida had to beat Tennessee for UK to obtain a berth, and Florida lost to the Volunteers, who secured the 8th and final spot in the tournament.

Kentucky finishes the year 34-19-1, 13-16-1 SEC, and will have to wait to see if they get an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, although nobody really believes that is likely to occur.

Injuries, bad luck and youth were the scourge of the Wildcats this year, along with a very tough SEC, arguably the toughest college baseball league in the land.  UK's two best players, reliever Scott Green and pre-season all-American Colin Cowgill were unavailable all year.

Kentucky will return almost all its major players next year, and with a healthy Green and Cowgill, should be a threat to finish near the top of the SEC and hopefully make the NCAA's again.
