Baseball Cats open season with sweep

With much to prove after a magical SEC title run last season, John Cohen's Kentucky baseball team traveled to Furman this weekend for the first series of the season.

Ranked in the preseason top 25 by Rivals (#21), the Wildcats (3-0) -- now No. 22 -- rode the bats of Antone DeJesus and Ryan Wilkes on Friday night, then got a pair of homers from Jason Kipnis on Saturday.

Sunday's finale saw a fine outing from senior ace Greg Dombrowski, who allowed just two runs in six quality innings to earn the sweep. with Furman creeping back in it, UK loaded the bases and knocked across five runs in the inning to ice the game.

The Cats' next series, and first game of a long homestand, begins Wednesday against Murray State in Lexington.
