The Meeks inherits the Award

Just over the wires, Kentucky freshman shooting guard Jodie Meeks -- whose 18 points saved UK's ass on Saturday at Louisville -- has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week for last week.

Meeks is the first of the UK four to win an award, and it's well-deserved, as is more playing time.

Details to come.

Meeks earned a chance to start, IMO
After Crawford's continued, and inexplicable, decision to force his shot I think Meeks deserves a chance to at least compete for the starting spot. Tubby needs to let Crawford know that being a senior only gurantees you so many starts.  If Joe can't reign in his instinct and look for better shots, or make up his mind to contribute in other ways when his shot isn't falling, he may need to step aside.

Craw-daddy
Joe C is a junior, but I understand your point.

I don't think one game necessarily means Joe should sit -- especially on the defensive end, where joe has improved tremendously -- but some pressure never hurts.

Meeks...
...will get plenty of playing time.  Meeks had a good game against Louisville, but that is the only game he has really played particularly well in so far, and Crawford has been productive all season.

Crawford may have shot the ball poorly against Louisville and forced up some bad ones, but he also lead the team in assists with 5 (1/TO) and got 4 big rebounds.  Meeks outscored him and played well overall, but one good game does not a starter make, IMO.

Crawfords recent shooting...
Knew Crawford was a junior, doh!...But anyway: Crawford's shooting the last 5 games from behind the arc - 0/3, 0/3, 4/9, 0/5, 1/4.  That's more of what I was talking about.  He was 5/1 for Assists/TOs this game but that's almost the exact opposite of the previous 5 games too.

Basically, I see a player making poor decisions and I think some pressure on that spot would be good.  Not only does it maybe get Joe C to focus a little more but it also sends the message to the other players that you can play your way into the lineup.  I think one thing with Tubby is that though he uses a ton of different lineups they always seem to have the feeling that he's looking for the right combination and will try anything.  Instead I'd rather see more people get a shot like Jasper, prove that you can do it and you'll get a start.  Go with your best players and talents, Tubby.  Maybe Meeks isn't the guy but even saying there's a chance is a good thing I think.
